Who’s Threatening Democracy Again?

The political world is still trying to grasp the shocking, historic decision by the Colorado State Supreme Court Tuesday evening to up and declare former President Trump guilty of insurrection and boot him off the state ballot. It’s Colorado, so perhaps we can shrug it off as “too much weed” and assume the Supreme Court will clean it up. Unfortunately, the decision is much more ominous than that.

If you missed it, we posted my reaction, “I’m Sorry, Mrs. Pease, Wherever You Are.” Mrs. Pease was my fifth-grade teacher.

Dear, dear Mrs. Pease. You must be looking down on us today feeling like an utter sap. You may as well have been teaching us the earth is flat, the Easter Bunny is real and George Washington really did chop down that cherry tree. Because in your beloved America, it’s looking increasingly like “We, the People” won’t have a say in selecting our next president.

John Zmirak also unleashed a powerful, “The Colorado Supreme Court Promises to Send Us Back to Biblical Times. That’s Not a Pretty Prospect.”

The Colorado GOP says it may abandon the primary system and instead use the caucus system if the court decision is allowed to stand.

Liberal Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley was beside himself over the decision. “This country is a powder keg and this court is just throwing matches at it … for people that say they are trying to protect democracy, this is hands down the most anti-democratic opinion I’ve seen in my lifetime.”

Also beside himself was one of the other Democratic judges on the State Supreme Court. In a withering dissent, Justice Carlos Samour declared, “I have been involved in the justice system for 33 years now, and what took place here doesn’t resemble anything I’ve seen in a courtroom.” The unilateral decision violates a “bedrock principle” of democracy and “flies in the face of the due process doctrine” and “risked chaos in the country.”

“This,” he says, “can’t possibly be the outcome the framers intended.” But … but … but … Orange Man Bad … and the Framers were just white slave-owning cisgender males, with free and fair elections an oppressive relic of the patriarchy.

Joe Biden Happy to Have His Opponent Thwarted

You’d think someone who swore to uphold the Constitution would have a problem with voting being taken out of the hands of voters. But I guess when you’re losing badly in the polls, a majority of your own party wants you to quit, and your own staffers think you’re deluded about your capacities, you say what you gotta say.

When asked Wednesday about the Colorado court decision, Biden said he didn’t want to speak about the case, but went on to sell the same argument that Trump is an “insurrectionist.” Biden declared, “We saw it all, and whether the 14th Amendment applies, I’ll let the court make that decision. But he certainly supported an insurrection. There’s no question about it, none, zero.”

In case you think what happened in Colorado is just the whim of some radical judges in the Rockies, keep in mind Biden’s marching orders to the courts and DOJ. “We just have to demonstrate that he will not take power, if he does run, making sure under legitimate efforts of the Constitution, does not become the next president again.”

And what’s the only way to stop someone from running under the Constitution? If a candidate has been part of an insurrection or rebellion against the country. So what’s the word Biden has to use regarding Trump? “Insurrection.”

By the way, a shout-out to actor James Woods for remembering Democrats have played this erase-your-enemy-from-the-ballot game before. Namely, with Lincoln in 1860.

Speaking of Lincoln, though.

Lincoln Memorial Vandalized

The pro-Hamas protesters who have been wreaking havoc coast-to-coast since the atrocity of October 7 have vandalized the Lincoln Memorial. “Free Gaza” was sprayed in red paint on several areas of the memorial steps. The National Park Service thinks it will take several days to fix the damage.

Meanwhile, across the Potomac at Arlington National Cemetery, a federal judge lifted a temporary restraining order and has allowed the Biden Administration to begin removing the historic Reconciliation Memorial. The Confederate monument was erected over 100 years ago to commemorate the reunification of North and South after the Civil War.

Harvard President Claudine Gay Faces a Slew of New Plagiarism Charges

Harvard President Claudine Gay, already under fire for winking at calls for genocide against Jews, is facing yet another round of plagiarism allegations. As the Washington Examiner reports, Harvard received a complaint Tuesday laying out 40 more instances of Gay allegedly plagiarizing her way to the top of the academic food chain. If Gay did any more copying, she’d have to change her name to Xerox.

Still, supporters are pushing back on calls for Gay to resign.

“Just because you’ve repeatedly been caught plagiarizing doesn’t mean you can’t be a president,” said this observer in a call with The Stream.

Yeah, you’ve got to have a chuckle, once in a while.
