Water for LIFE: Meet This ‘Woman at the Well’

Fara is a young mother not yet 20, whose life up to now has been filled with heartache. Orphaned when her parents died from waterborne disease, she had no one to care for her or give her comfort. Even worse, she had no one to protect her when she was sexually enslaved by men for a time … and in the midst of that horror, she became pregnant. After escaping that darkness, she gave birth to her son, Nasri, now the joy of her life.
But, like the Bible story of the woman at the well, Fara has been labeled. In her remote African village, she endures name calling and the shame of having a fatherless child. When she gathers water at a putrid pond for herself and her son, other women yell at her in disgust, “Prostitute!”
Thankfully, the Lord Jesus didn’t care about labels. He would have gladly talked to Fara, because He reached out to people others shunned. He would have not only given her water to drink, but offered her the Water of Life that changes hearts and brings peace.
How You Can Help
Following the example of Jesus, The Stream’s parent organization, LIFE Outreach International, is doing something to help women like Fara.
