Clean Water Needed: How You Can Help Save Lives With Water for LIFE

By Nancy Flory Published on February 20, 2019

“Our water comes from a hole in the ground,” Zacharey from Burundi said. “We know it’s dirty but we have no other choice.” Zacharey’s wife recently died from cholera — a result of drinking polluted water. His fourth child, a baby boy who was still nursing, died three weeks later. Zacharey, who is caring for his three remaining children, has now contracted symptoms of Cholera. His biggest fear? Leaving his children as orphans.

“My legs are swollen and my stomach is bloated,” Zacharey explained. “My whole body is in pain and I’m getting worse.” He will have to send his children to their grandfather. “As a father, I can no longer provide for them.”

Zacharey’s story isn’t unique. Stories like his are heard throughout his village. Mothers have lost children, children have lost parents. In order to survive, they need a source of clean water.

How You Can Help

LOI Water For Life

The Stream’s parent organization, LIFE Outreach International, is doing something about it. Since 2000, LIFE Outreach’s Water for LIFE program has drilled more than 6,200 wells. That means LIFE Outreach, with the gracious help of friends like you, has been able to provide access to clean water for over 6.2 million people.

But the need is still great. Hundreds of millions still lack clean water. Our goal this year is 380 new wells and you can help. Help us turn pictures of grief into pictures of health.

Join us in praying that the Lord moves in the hearts of His children to meet this need. And visit Water for LIFE to see how you can bring pure water to those most in need.
