Vice President Mike Pence and White House adviser Kellyanne Conway addressed an enthusiastic crowd at the 44th annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Friday afternoon.

Pence and Conway spoke to the rally on the National Mall. It was the first time a vice president had addressed the March for Life.

Conway proclaimed it “a new day, a new dawn for life.”

“We hear you, we see you, we respect you, and we look forward to working with you,” the former presidential campaign manager said to applause.

Conway said that pro-life activism should include help for women facing unplanned pregnancies. “They should know that they are not alone. They are not judged. They too are protected and cared for and celebrated.”

Pence was introduced by his wife, Second Lady Karen Pence, who pointed out that it was not their family’s first time to attend the annual pro-life march.

“I have never met anyone who has more compassion for women, for children, and for the American people,” she said of her husband.

Pence drew cheers when he announced that “life is winning again in America.” The former Indiana governor noted that Monday on President Donald Trump’s first full business day office, he had reinstated the Mexico City policy. The policy prevents the United States from funding international organizations that provide abortions.

“We’re in the promise keeping business,” he said, adding that next week, Trump is set to announce his nominee for the Supreme Court, whom he has said will be pro-life.

Pence ended his address with a call for love over anger, and compassion over confrontation.

“We will not grow weary, we will not rest, until we restore a culture of life in America for ourselves and for posterity,” he said.

The president tweeted his support for the march shortly before Conway and Pence addressed the rally.

Beginning at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, the crowd of thousands will march to the Supreme Court building. For live coverage of the march and as-it-happens updates from The Stream, click here.
