Trump: This is Clinton’s ‘Single Biggest Mistake’ on the Campaign Trail

Hillary Clinton’s remark that half of Trump supporters are “deplorables” is the “single biggest mistake” she’s made in the 2016 political season, Donald Trump said Monday.

“Personally, when I heard it I thought that it was not something that was within the realm of possible, that she would have said it,” the Republican presidential nominee said on Fox News. “And I said to my people: ‘I don’t believe that she said it. I think you have to check it, because there’s no way that she said this.”

“And she actually did, and she even really doubled up, because it was said with such anger, and such unbelievable anger,” Trump continued. “And I think this is the biggest mistake of the political season. I really do. When I saw this in its full form, and I saw the anger with which she said it — I mean, the way she spoke — I think it’s the single biggest mistake of the political season.”

Clinton said half of Trump’s supporters are “deplorables” at a fundraiser in New York Friday, and later characterized the other half as pitiable because of their perception the government has left them behind.

“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables,’ right?” the Democratic presidential nominee said. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it.”

The comment has drawn comparisons to Mitt Romney’s comment at a private fundraiser in 2008 writing off 47 percent of American voters, which dealt his Republican presidential campaign a devastating blow.

“They compared this to 47 percent on the shows last night,” Trump added on Fox. “but they said it’s actually much worse. Well remember this — you’re going to be president, you’re president of all the people. You’re not president of 50 percent or 75 percent, you’re president of all the people. You’re president of everybody, and somehow it has to get out there that you know, its not a certain group of people that’s going to be left behind.”
