Just two months after an extremely close assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, it appears a second attempt has been made on his life. Gunfire erupted while Trump was on the fifth hole at his Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach. Secret Service fired at the suspect, who fled the scene, but has since been arrested.

“Tell everybody I am fine and the Secret Service did a great job,” Trump told Fox News.

Law enforcement said in a briefing Sunday afternoon that an advance agent one hole ahead of the former president spotted the rifle barrel sticking out of the bushes and engaged the suspect. The would-be assassin was between 300-500 yards away from Trump, and within range of his rifle and scope.

According to Sean Hannity, Secret Service pounced on the president.

Meanwhile, a witness saw the man sprint from the bushes and got a photo of his car and license plate. With that information, police were able to track and pull over the suspect on I-95 in Martin County. He is reportedly a 58-year-old white male. Fox News reports the suspect has been identified as “Ryan Wesley Routh.”

Police found an AK-47-style weapon, two backpacks loaded with ceramic and a GoPro camera. The Secret Service, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and FBI are investigating what the bureau is definitively calling an “attempted assassination.”

Trump told supporters in an email, β€œI AM SAFE AND WELL. Nothing will slow me down. I will never surrender. I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”

We will update as more information becomes available.
