Today is the National Day of Prayer
On Thursday, Americans will observe the National Day of Prayer. Observance of this goes back to 1952 when a joint resolution of Congress was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. President Ronald Reagan amended the law in 1988, which designated the first Thursday of May each year the National Day of Prayer.
Pray for Unity
The theme this year is unity, which is based on Ephesians 4:3: βMake every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.β
The President of the National Day of Prayer, Dr. Ronnie Floyd, said in a statement that we are living in a crucial time in America’s history. “Division rages, hate and vitriolic language are loud. … In all this, one thing is crystal clear: politics will not heal us, and government will not fix us. We need a massive prayer movement that will lead us back to God and bring healing to our land. That is my great hope for this date set apart for prayer and national repentance.”
Many churches and other organizations are hosting prayer events. To find the prayer event near you, go to nationaldayofprayer.org/events.
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer (Matt. 21:22).
