The Morning Brew: CNN Boss Abruptly Quits, Whoopi’s Cohorts Ignore Scandal, and Just How Unprepared Was WH for Afghan Withdrawal?

CNN’s President Jeff Zucker Resigns (Finally) Effective Immediately

CNN President Jeff Zucker resigned Wednesday, effective immediately. Was it because he drove the once powerful news network into the toilet, with ratings plummeting faster than a downhill skier? No. Was it because he actively pushed fake news and Deep State propaganda? No. Was it because he helped fix an election? No.

He wasn’t even dumped for creating a corporate culture friendly for pedophiles and other perverts. (Paging Jeffrey Toobin. And how’s that sexual assault suit going, Don Lemon?)

No, Zucker quit because he didn’t disclose he and his “closest colleague,” CNN’s chief marketing officer and executive VP Allison Gollust, are in a “consensual relationship.” (Given all the recent stories out of CNN, one couldn’t help but have the initial reaction, “At least she’s of age.”)

Gollust said in a statement their relationship turned romantic during COVID. More fake news, according the NY Post. Their sources at CNN insist the pair have been involved for years. CNN personality Soledad O’Brien called it an “open secret,”  expressing her surprise he’d resign now.

Maybe not a surprise. CNN’s Brian Stelter claims fired CNN anchor Chris Cuomo wanted to “burn the place down” since he wasn’t getting paid his millions and was threatening to unleash “incriminating evidence” about Zucker.

Discovery, which is in the process of taking over ownership of CNN, has to be thinking, “Maybe we should just fire everybody and run 24 hours of cute animal videos.”

Whoopi Suspended From The View. Co-Hosts Ignore the “Hot Topic”

Whoopi Goldberg was suspended for two weeks from The View for her comments about the Holocaust that were deemed anti-Semitic. Goldberg had denied the Holocaust had anything to do with race, and instead was about “man’s inhumanity to man.”

ABC News president Kim Goodwin suspended Whoopi the two weeks, so she could “take time to reflect.”  (Funny how ABC didn’t give Rosanne Barr “time to reflect.” One joke in one tweet and Roseanne was immediately fired.)

You’re probably thinking the same thing. Not having to listen to Joy Behar screeching in your left ear for two weeks is a punishment?!

Whoopi had already apologized twice for her comments, and — very rare for a liberal — admitted she was wrong.

Astonishingly, for a show that prides itself on “Hot Topics,” The View ignored Whoopi’s suspension Wednesday. Instead, they used their opening segment Wednesday to trash Justice Neil Gorsuch.

Washington Football Team Has a New Name: Washington Commanders

The former Washington Redskins finally have a new name: Washington Commanders. The team made the announcement Wednesday morning via video:

One commentator on Twitter found the name change confusing.

Sad thing? These Commanders would have done a better job than the commanders behind the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Axios Report Reveals Just How Unprepared WH Was for Afghan Withdrawal

A document leaked to Axios reveals just how unprepared the Biden Administration was to evacuate Afghan nationals when the U.S. military withdrew and Afghanistan collapsed last summer. The notes are from an NSC meeting August 14, around 3:30-4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. One of the action items was for the State Department to identify “as many countries as possible to serve as transit points. Transit points need to be able to accommodate U.S. citizens, Afghan nationals, third country nationals, and other evacuees.”

Kabul would fall just hours later.

Axios outlines four key findings in the document:

  • Outsiders were frustrated and suspicious the administration was having plenty of meetings but was stuck in bureaucratic inertia and lacked urgency until the last minute.
  • While the word “immediately” peppers the document, it’s clear officials were still scrambling to finalize their plans — on the afternoon of Aug. 14.
  • For example, they’d just decided they needed to notify local Afghan staff “to begin to register their interest in relocation to the United States,” the document says.
  • And they were still determining which countries could serve as transit points for evacuees.

As Fox News puts it: “The question is how Afghanistan could be hours from being overthrown and these issues evidently not nailed down.”

Biden had announced in April the U.S. would be withdrawing. And no plans were in place by August?

Well, it’s a good thing Biden isn’t rushing to get our military and allies entangled somewhere else in the world. Oh wait.

Biden Orders 3,000 More U.S. Troops to Eastern Europe in Response to Russian Build-Up

3,000 American troops will be on the move to Eastern Europe. Joe Biden has ordered 2,000 additional U.S.-based troops to Poland and Germany, and shifting 1,000 more from Germany to Romania. Even as the White House backs off claiming a Russian invasion of Ukraine was “imminent.” (Ukraine was like, “Chill out, gramps. No invasion is imminent.”)

The Pentagon said the troop movement is demonstrating to both allies and foes America’s commitment to NATO’s eastern flank amid fears of a Russian invasion.

Russia calls the deployments unfounded and “destructive.”  (Arizona’s attorney general Mark Brnovich, watching illegals flood over our border by the hundreds of thousands, calls the deployment “the height of hypocrisy.”)

The new 3,000 is separate from the 8,500 U.S. troops put on heightened alert.

All these troops prepping for a potential conflict? It’s a good thing the Army isn’t throwing out trained soldiers by the thousands. Oh, wait.

Army Announces It’ll Immediately Start Discharging Those Refusing to Take the Jab

The Army declared Wednesday that it’ll immediately begin discharging soldiers who are refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine. (Even as new research reveals just how little the vaccine does to stop Omicron.) Some 3,300 of America’s finest may soon be discharged. And discharged for misconduct.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, one of the architects of the Afghanistan disaster and the wokeness poisoning our military, and someone you think would be focused on countering Russia’s alleged invasion plans … if the White House rhetoric is to be believed … is busy rebuffing Republican governors. He’s notified seven GOP governors that their state’s National Guard troops must be vaccinated, despite their pleas for exemptions.

A failure to jab will “lead to a prohibition on participation in drills, training and other duty conducted under title 32 and will jeopardize the member’s status in the National Guard.”

Those seven governors had previously declared they weren’t going to force their troops to be jabbed. Under title 32, governors control the guard unless they are mobilized for federal duty.
