The Brew: US Soccer Team Takes a Few Too Many Balls to the Head

Happy Tuesday!

And a big Tuesday it is. “HUUUUGE,” a certain billionaire might say. But first …

Team USA Adjusts Logo to Include LGBTQ+ Rainbow … for World Cup … in QATAR

Why not just host a pig roast at midfield? This weekend the World Cup kicks off in Qatar, and to celebrate, Team USA has decided to shove LGBTQ+ messaging right in the face of the host country. The team has adjusted its crest to feature the rainbow colors. (So much for representing the Red, White and Blue. Though literally in this case, the red and white.) Qatar is a Muslim country that is not exactly down with homosexual and transgender demands. As the Daily Mail reports, just last month, the nation’s World Cup ambassador said homosexuality is “damage to the mind.”

The teams uniforms will remain unchanged for games. However, a team spokesman says the crest will appear in U.S.-controlled sites, such as the team hotel, media areas and parties.

Put aside the issue itself. It’s hard to imagine any country taking too kindly to upstart Americans trying to embarrass it as it proudly takes the world stage. For that matter, it’s hard to see what could go over worse internationally than trying to politicize the World Cup.

The World Cup starts Sunday, with the U.S. having its first Group B match Monday against Wales.

Meanwhile, the Daily Caller has an article about how Muslim voters shifted toward the Republicans in the midterms. Cultural issues were a driving force. You think Team USA going all rainbow in a Muslim country, trying to embarrass a Muslim country, in front of the world is going to slow that swing or accelerate it?

Trump is Making His ‘Special Announcement’ Tonight at 9 Eastern

Is 45 announcing he wants to be 47? Former President Donald Trump is making a “special announcement” tonight from Mar-a-Lago at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Boy, would it be awesome if his special announcement was that he is saving 15% on auto insurance.

But in fact, Trump is expected to announce that he is running for president again. (Which was pretty much clear at 12:01 p.m. January 20th, 2021.)

Trump’s announcement comes the same day his former VP Mike Pence releases his memoir So Help Me God. In a pre-release interview with ABC News, Pence calls Trump’s words on January 6 “reckless,” and claims they “endangered me and my family and everyone at the Capitol building.”

Pence has been making moves as if he’s also going to jump into the 2024 race. Do people really want to see Tonto try on the mask of the Lone Ranger? Pence should instead be looking to appear on America’s Got Talent. Trying to walk between saying how wonderful the Trump-Pence administration is while also smacking down Trump is quite a tightrope act.

Meanwhile, with the eyes of the world watching Biden at the G20 …

Strange Days: House Freedom Caucus Floating Idea of Trump as Speaker

It sounded like one of those internet rumors, but apparently it’s true. Freedom Caucus members unhappy with Kevin McCarthy are actually floating the idea that Republicans make Trump Speaker of the House should they indeed take the House. You don’t have to actually be in Congress to be Speaker. You know who hates that idea? Netflix. Because if Trump is Speaker and Pelosi stays around as Minority Leader (and how could she resist) you wouldn’t need Netflix for all the drama and comedy that show would provide.

On a more realistic level, Rep. Andy Briggs is signaling he may challenge McCarthy for the Speakership.

See Something Wrong Here? Academy of Pediatric Medicine Edition

A New York mother has been busted after letting her 10-year-old child get a tattoo. You have to be 18 in New York State to do that. Dr. Cora Bruener, author of the guidance on tattoos for pediatricians issued by the American Academy of Pediatric Medicine tells the New York Times, “It is a permanent mark or a symbol you are putting on your body, and I don’t think kids under 18 have that kind of agency to make a decision.”

However, as Christina Buttons pointed out, this is the very same APA that is all in on gender reassignment surgery and puberty blockers for kids.

See Something Wrong Here? Amazon Edition

Two news stories about Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Monday: Bezos revealed he plans to donate a bulk of his $124 billion fortune to activist groups when he ships off this mortal coil. Specifically, much will go to the cause of climate change.

Also Monday, a report that Bezos plans on laying off 10,000 Amazon employees this week.

Lots of green for climate activists. Lots of pink slips for his own people.

See Something Wrong Here? Barack Obama and George W. Bush Hold Conferences on Misinformation

Good news! The president who insisted there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and the president who insisted the Benghazi terror attack was ignited by a video and declared “If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” (among a host of other whoppers along the way) are hosting conferences on … you guessed it … “disinformation.”

Bush will be holding the “Struggle for Freedom” conference tomorrow, which will include a panel called “Emerging Technology and the Future of Freedom.” Translation: Big Tech should do a better job clamping down on misinformation. It’s a topic he has discussed before.

Obama is being more blatant. His “Democracy Forum” conference is Wednesday and has two panels that specifically mention “disinformation.”

Here’s why this is particularly nauseating. It was Obama and Bush’s intelligence community leaders who banded together to issue that despicable lie that the Hunter Biden laptop revelations were Russian disinformation. Their people who lied to American voters in order to throw the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

The two ex-presidents said nothing about that disinformation.

Listen to these two chums talk about disinformation and freedom? I’d rather take a seminar from Alec Baldwin on gun safety.

A Chuckle for a Tuesday Morning

Awww… German Crowd Sings ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ at First NFL Game

The NFL held it first game in Germany Sunday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played the Seattle Seahawks. But amid the large men slamming into each other and Tom Brady doing what Tom Brady does, there came a beautiful moment.

In the fourth quarter, the German crowd broke into a heart-tugging sing-a-long to John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Can I just throw my two Deutschmarks in and say John Denver was greatly underestimated and greatly unappreciated? It is a cultural injustice that the late singer-songwriter has not received the type of revival, rediscovery and celebration that, say, ABBA has seen.

But it sounds like the Germans get it.

Finally, we want to extend our condolences and offer our prayers to the Univ. of Virginia football team. Three players were murdered Sunday by a former teammate. Stream contributor Tim Furnish’s son Ty is a member of the team, and thankfully was not injured. Tim has asked for our prayers and offers up one of his own for those lost and injured and their families.
