The Brew: The Purge Trials Will Continue Until Morale Improves

By John Zmirak Published on October 20, 2023

The mild-mannered Al Perrotta is taking a day off. So buckle up.

I learned today that my friend, the great Sidney Powell, copped to some cooked-up misdemeanors for her efforts to expose election fraud in Georgia, rather than face the kind of Soviet-style prison terms dished out by our police state to non-violent January 6 demonstrators. This courageous patriot who uncovered the abusive prosecutions of Russia hoaxer Andrew Weissman and his other Stasi colleagues won’t see the inside of a jail cell. So, I say, good for her! Prosecutors are claiming that she will cooperate with them in nailing other defendants, including Trump.

But I know Sidney. She’s fiercely honest and fearless. She won’t lie to help these tyrants, and her testimony won’t hurt the innocent. Except if spreading what the government deems β€œmisinformation” is fully criminalized, which it might be. In that case, a lot of us are going to face arrest and prosecution. Solzhenitsyn once said that in a criminal society, the only place for a decent person was prison. Let’s pray and fight to keep that from applying in America β€” and be not afraid. Remember that the apostle Paul spent much of his life as a fugitive or a thought criminal.

Stay strong, Sidney! If we ever have another honest election again, I hope the next patriotic president appoints you Attorney General. Then we’ll have some trials to really report on.

Canada Set to Start Euthanizing People for Being Suicidal

The Blaze reports:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party voted down a bill Wednesday that would have barred the state from euthanizing mentally ill Canadians. There is little now standing in the way of those with mental disorders, including the depressed whose suicidal ideation is likely a symptom, having the state put them down starting March 17, 2024.

…

The bill was supported by the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention and the Society of Canadian Psychiatry.

Th CASP stated late last month that it felt “strongly that extreme caution needs to be taken with [Medical Assistance in Dying] and a thought-out, failproof, measured system of safeguards needs to be in place so that those most vulnerable will be protected from a medically assisted premature death that could be avoided by adequate treatment and care,” adding that the government had failed to deliver on promises that such safeguards would be implemented.

Besides noting that there are alternative treatments for mental illness besides death, critics have questioned whether mentally and emotionally compromised patients can legally provide consent for euthanasia.

Remember that the left is motivated solely by compassion for the vulnerable, not a crass desire to save money by gassing unwanted citizens like strays at a city kill shelter. I know, I know, it’s hard to keep that in mind when they act like a bunch of Nazis. But try. It will make your life easier, trust me.

RINO Stampede Crushes Jim Jordan’s Speaker Hopes

I wrote yesterday about how almost two dozen Republicans in the House are flashing their β€œControlled Opposition” credentials by refusing to back a conservative like Rep. Jim Jordan for speaker β€” denying principled voters control of any organ of our government. While at the same time our FBI classifies Trump supporters as domestic extremists and our DOJ tries to lock Trump in prison for questioning election fraud.

Please Support The Stream: Equipping Christians to Think Clearly About the Political, Economic, and Moral Issues of Our Day.

Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit reported:

Rep. Jim Jordan withdrew from the Speaker’s race today after 22 RINOs derailed his vote for Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

Jordan was clearly the grassroots favorite but the GOPe successfully blocked his attempt to lead the Republican Party.

The Republican lawmakers who prevented this will certainly face primary challengers as they should.

The good old boys win again!

There will be no vote for Speaker again until January at least. Jim Jordan is bowing out for now.

Instead, he will back McCarthy ally Patrick McHenry as interim Speaker until January. That is three months from now.

This comes two days after former House Speakers John Boehner and Newt Gingrich backed McHenry for interim Speaker.

How did this catastrophe happen? Steve Bannon offered some insight on his indispensable show War Room:

I have spies everywhere. Folks were calling me last night from the Capitol Grill, which is the worst of the worst, and the lobbyists were literally walking around cutting deals with people at the tables. They said, a couple of people that are going to be added to this, they were in full view, maybe having a few adult beverages, cutting deals with the lobbyists to vote against Jordan.

But Wait, It Ain’t Over Yet

All the above was the state of things until late this afternoon, when fresh news broke from Washington. Benny Johnson reported that Jordan is making another stab at finding Republicans willing to represent their actual voters:

Let’s pray, good and hard, that the people’s voice isn’t completely suffocated by the lobbyists, the military contractors, and the country-club Republicans.

UPDATE: Rep. Jordan is holding a press conference at 8 a.m. this morning with another Speaker vote scheduled for 10 a.m.

That same intrepid journalist, Benny Johnson, shared video of Texas (!) Rep. Colin Allred threatening an uppity peasant for daring to question him:

Yeah, this guy plans to challenge Ted Cruz for his Senate seat.

Whipping Up Hatred of Jews, America From Inside the House of Representatives

Intrepid Islamist congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is repeating the lie that Israel bombed a Christian-run hospital in Gaza, despite the facts that emerged which debunked this viral story:

I’m old enough to remember Rod Dreher condemning President Trump for unleashing LITERAL β€œdemons of racism” by mocking Tlaib and fellow jihad enthusiast Rep. Ilhan Omar. This column didn’t age well, did it? The ravages of Trump Derangement Syndrome on the human brain aren’t pretty.
