The Brew: Saying ‘Good Afternoon, Girls’ to Girls at a Girl School Can Now Get You Fired?

And poor Broadway legend Patti Lupone. She can't tell the difference between the Taliban and Christian conservatives. Should we give her a hand?

A glorious Thursday to you, and an important one for us, as we await the imminent arrival of The Great Stream Reader Survey.

The Great Stream Reader Survey

All you great Stream readers are going to be given the opportunity to share your thoughts, feelings and ideas about the nation and The Stream, plus help give us some insight into who you really are. We are amidst one of the most crucial times in our nation’s history, politically and spiritually, and we need to know how best to serve you going forward.

The folks conducting and analyzing the survey are very smart people who have not only earned our trust but have a bona fide passion for helping make The Stream a potent force in the years to come.

But it’s really going to need you to work. The more of you who take the survey the clearer the results will be. I am especially talking to you quiet types who might think your opinion won’t matter or assume others think the way you do. We’re already discovering from doing our part of this process that the quieter among The Stream staff have had the most fascinating insights. So believe me, your voice matters!

As does being direct. If we deserve a one on a scale of one-to-five on something … GIVE US THE ONE!

So keep on the lookout later today and throughout the rest of the month for emails, banners and inserts that lead the way to the survey link. Just 20 minutes of your time could help lead to years of a greater, more powerful, more illuminating, more user-friendly, more enjoyable Stream.

Thank you … and now we return to our regularly scheduled Brew.

Very Curious. Top DHS Intel Official Charged With Keeping Eye on Cartels Has Office Raided and Sealed

The top DHS intelligence official responsible for cross-border threats had his office raided Monday, Rolling Stone is reporting. Brian Sulc is being investigated for having an electronic device in a forbidden area. But is that the whole story? Is that what sent officers from the Federal Protective Service racing to DHS, sirens blaring?

We have the full story right here. This could be a huge deal. Don’t think he’s being walked out of the building and office sealed for having lifted women’s luggage from an airport.

Broadway Star Patti Lupone Tells The View She Has No Idea the Difference Between the Taliban and the Christian Right

Ever hear the expression, β€œstick to your lane?” Broadway legend Patti Lupone should stick to 42nd Street. Lupone was on The View Tuesday and declared she couldn’t tell the difference between the Taliban and the Christian right.

The three-time Tony winner was asked about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ efforts to stop porn and graphic LGBTQ materials in children’s libraries along with the state’s efforts to halt the sterilization and mutilation of children under the guise of β€œgender affirming care.” (Of course, that’s the way The View posed the question.)

β€œI’m going to get in trouble,” Lupone said. β€œI don’t know what the difference between our Christian right and the Taliban is. I have no idea what the difference is.”

Hey, Patti. Remember that time during COVID when you stopped a show to yell, scream, berate, humiliate, injure, torment a woman whose face mask had slipped to expose too much of her face for your liking? That’s the Taliban.

Seriously, we hear that bumper sticker line all the time from liberal elites. But it’s especially troubling hearing it from someone whose city experienced the 9/11 terror attacks at the hands of people harbored by the Taliban. Seems a big difference between protecting children and turning 3,000 New Yorkers to dust.

In fact, Just the News reported only yesterday that defense and intelligence officials believe Afghanistan under the Taliban has again become a β€œsafe haven” for Al-Qaida and ISIS-K. Not only that, the terror groups could carry out an attack without warning against the U.S. or other Western targets within six months.

Here’s a question for those who think like Lupone: You’re in a crowded public place. What’s going to freak you out? Someone yelling β€œAllahu Akbar!” or someone yelling β€œPraise Jesus!”?

But I have another idea for Lupone specifically. If she really wants to learn the difference between the Taliban and conservative Christians, how about doing a month-long run in Kabul and a month-long run in Kansas? Then get back to us.

Or maybe just read some headlines, and learn where the real oppression resides.

Female Teacher Fired for Saying β€œGood Afternoon, Girls” … at a Girls School

When did U.K. come to mean β€œutterly kooky”? A female teacher was let go by a posh British private school operated by the Girl’s Day School Trust after she had the gall β€” the nerve β€” the impudence, to say β€œGood afternoon, girls” to students.

This offended some of the students, who immediately launched a protest, declaring β€œnot everyone here identifies as female.” Senior staff joined the protest. The teacher, who has chosen to remain anonymous to protect the students, was forced to issue a public apology. Then when it came time to renew her contract for next year, the school refused.

Still Talkin’ Bud Light

A Central Florida restaurant has pulled Bud Light from its taps over its partnership with trans activist Dylan Mulvaney. Grills Seafood and Tiki Bar owner Joe Penovich said in a lengthy Facebook post that Bud Light’s direction was in β€œdirect opposition” to their Christian faith.

There is no judgement in our heart concerning those who believe in these rapidly changing social values. But there is a lie being levied that we and other Christians hate Dylan Mulvaney and the gay community. Nothing could be further from the truth in our hearts and minds. Our decision was made with many tears for this circumstance and what we see as corporate greed and a deeper spiritual reality coming upon this world.

Please Support The Stream: Equipping Christians to Think Clearly About the Political, Economic, and Moral Issues of Our Day.

I have a weird question: Do you think there’d be the same level of pushback and outrage if Bud Light had featured Bruce β€œCaitlyn” Jenner instead of Dylan Mulvaney? I suspect not. Jenner remains a jock and a conservative, and doesn’t go around prancing like a teeny-bopper girl at a Taylor Swift show.

But what do you think? ContactUs@stream.flywheelstaging.com

Finally, Gov. DeSantis’s camp found a rather humorous way to mock Bud Light and the effort to glorify biological men competing in women’s sports.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article incorrectly said the U.K. teacher greeted her class by saying, “Good morning, girls.” The article has been corrected to reflect that she said, “Good afternoon, girls.”
