The Brew: McConnell’s Freeze and a Happy Update on Gadsden Flag Patch Kid
Happy Thursday!
Let’s get Brewing.
School Backs Down. Kid Can Keep Gadsden Flag Patch on Book Bag.
For those who missed the updated web version yesterday, vindication came Tuesday evening for Jaiden, the 12-year-old Colorado Springs student tossed out for having a patch of the Gadsden Flag on his backpack. Hours after the story lit up the internet, the Vanguard School Board of Directors held an emergency meeting. They didn’t just change their tune, they practically wrote a love song to the Gadsden Flag.

“From Vanguard’s founding we have proudly supported our Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the ordered liberty that all Americans have enjoyed for almost 250 years. The Vanguard School recognizes the historical significance of the Gadsden flag and its place in history. This incident is an occasion for us to reaffirm our deep commitment to a classical education in support of these American principles.”
Bully to the board for stepping up and standing up against the revisionist history that’s trying to turn the Gadsden Flag into some symbol of racism.
There’s a bit more to the story. The school told local station KOAA that Jaiden also had patches featuring semi-automatic weapons. Fox News reports his mother agreed to remove those.
Day After Emotional Congressional Testimony Gold Star Families of Marines Killed in Afghanistan Exit Meet With Trump
This week marks the second anniversary of America’s catastrophic exit from Afghanistan. During a Congressional hearing Tuesday, the families of the 13 Marines killed in the suicide bombing at the Abbey Gate let loose their rage, pain and frustration at Joe Biden and his administration. Not only for the incompetence that led to the slaughter of their loved ones at the Abbey Gate, but the disinformation … and indifference … shown them since. (Biden repeatedly looking at his watch and talking about his son Beau during the dignified transfer of the bodies at Dover AFB particularly stuck in their craw.)
On Wednesday, some of the families met with former President Donald Trump at Bedminster.
On September 11, they may also get some long-denied answers. The House Foreign Relations Committee will finally be getting to interview a military commander who may have given the order to a military sniper with the suicide bomber in his sights not to fire. Just the News reports:
Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews initially testified before the House committee in March that he had the suicide bomber in his sights before the bombing, but was ordered to stand down. “We communicated the atrocities to our chain of command and intel assets but nothing came of it,” Vargas-Andrews said. Lt. Col. [Brad] Whited was Vargas-Andrews’ commanding officer at the time of the attack.
McConnell Freezes Again. Who’s Going to Tell Them It’s Time to Get Out of the Saddle?
Former Secret Service agent John Baretta tells the poignant and sad story of how he had to tell former President Ronald Reagan it was no longer safe to ride a horse — that it was time to get out of the saddle. Here’s a clip, put to images from the upcoming bio-pic movie starring Dennis Quaid.
Where are the John Barettas in Washington, D.C., today? Where are the family members or advisors or friends to tell Joe Biden, Dianne Feinstein and Mitch McConnell it’s time to step down … for their sake, let alone the nation’s.
Yesterday, for the second time in recent weeks, 81-year-old Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell froze in the middle of speaking. Not in a “I lost track of what I was saying” way, but as if a switch had been turned off in his brain. He stared into space for about 30 seconds before the switch seemed to flip back on.

McConnell suffered a bad fall and head injury a few months back, and his staff wanted us to think all was well when he returned. Clearly, it is not. McConnell’s staff downplayed Wednesday’s incident, claiming the Senator just felt briefly “lightheaded.” (Is that what happens to you when you get lightheaded? Don’t you sway and move to steady yourself? Maybe say, “Whoa, got a little lightheaded there”?) Why pretend this is nothing?
Put aside for a moment the desperate need for a strong Minority Leader in the Senate. It is downright cruel for McConnell to continue to be put out there. Are we to believe these frightening freezes only happen when he’s in front of cameras? It is downright ominous that those around McConnell are happy to let it happen, as long as they’ve got the reins of one of the highest offices in the land.
Same goes for those around California Sen. Dianne Feinstein. How on earth can a person serve as a U.S. Senator when they are so frail and mentally incapacitated that her daughter had to be granted power of attorney over her finances? How on earth is it healthy for her to be wheeled around, unaware of what she’s doing, and propped up as functioning senator? Last week, Feinstein’s daughter Katherine filed suit against the trustees of Feinstein’s late husband’s estate, accusing them of financial elder abuse. How is this not political elder abuse?
And Joe Biden, does anybody at this point believe Joe Biden is leading his own life, his own actions, let alone leading the free world? What other public incident is it going to take? What decisions are being made by people who have not been elected to make those decisions?
I pray compassionate voices will step forward and insist democracy and personal dignity come before power and privilege — to tell these public servants, it’s time to come down off their horse.
Take what happened Tuesday to Biden.
Biden Convinced Custer Not to Attack at Little Big Horn … (Well, Not That, But Close)
Joe Biden returned to duty Tuesday after several weeks of vacation. The R&R didn’t help. At an event honoring the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Biden launched into a story about how he “literally” convinced segregationist Senator Strom Thurmond to vote for the Civil Rights Act “before he died.” Strom Thurmond famously holds the Senate record for the longest filibuster in history against the Civil Rights Act. And in 1964, Joe Biden was all of 21 years old.
It’s akin to claiming you stopped Abe Lincoln from going to Ford’s Theater.
You kinda figured Biden was confusing the historic landmark legislation with some lesser bit of business. And sure enough, the White House says Biden was referring to the 1980 Voting Rights Act.

When Gov. Mike Huckabee came to help celebrate James & Betty Robison’s 60 years of marriage and ministry, he brought with him a word for the nation. “The Battle We Face is No Longer Horizontal.”
