The first time Miss Kay Robertson and her family of Duck Dynasty fame watched the new film The Blind, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

“When … Willie [Robertson] got up to talk about it, he couldn’t even talk. … It’s got those emotions.”

Miss Kay spoke with The Stream’s Nancy Flory about the film that tells the story of her life with Phil before he came to Christ. It is a raw take about his weaknesses with alcohol and his rough lifestyle before he came to know the Lord. (At one point he kicked his own family out of the house!) “It’s a true story,” said Miss Kay. And the truth found in The Blind could bring people to Jesus, save marriages and rescue families.

Miss Kay wants Christians to watch the film, sure. But she wants them to bring their non-Christian friends, too. “Maybe if our movie could help one soul come to Jesus, or one marriage be saved, it was all worth it.”

The biggest challenge with making the movie was becoming vulnerable. “It’s the good, bad and ugly,” Miss Kay explained. “You just open up and expose everything.” She has now had speaking engagements about the film. She didn’t think that she could tell all of the “bad.” She just wanted to tell the “good.” But she wanted people to understand the good that Jesus can do. “We just opened up and let everybody have it because we were straight out, honest. And we let it go. We didn’t wanna leave out anything.”

Miss Kay said she doesn’t care if she makes a dime on the film. “I want people’s lives to be changed. I want somebody to find God that doesn’t have Him. I want marriages that are doing bad to do good. I want parents and children to be reunited and have a great relationship. I want all that to come from our movie.”

Phil is embarrassed by some parts in the movie, she admits:

Because he’s such a good man. A good Christian man. But I told Phil, ‘But your embarrassment is true and it shows what God can do.’ It is a story that I think needs to be told. And you need to know what God can do and He can do anything through His power.
