Merrick Garland Won’t Hand Over the Audio of Incapacitated Biden

We usually don’t do fiction on The Stream, but here we go.

“There’s only one tier of justice,” said U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. “We don’t give any benefit to a powerful person over a non-powerful person, any benefit to a Democrat over a Republican.”

Sure, and Hunter Biden’s favorite white powder is found on the slopes of Aspen.

Appearing before the House Judicial Committee on Tuesday, Garland defended his refusal to release the audio of Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur — audio so revealing of Biden’s failing mental state that Hur — under oath! — testified that it informed his decision not to seek criminal charges against the president for squirreling classified documents in several unsecured locations, including his garage. Garland tossed out excuses like “executive privilege” (though the transcript has been released) and how releasing the audio would increase others’ reluctance to testify. Other DOJ types have used crazy excuses like violating Biden’s “medical privacy” and worries over AI manipulation.

The AG for Me-But-Not-for-Thee also described the audio as “sensitive law-enforcement information.” Sensitive to whom? The U.S. Department of Justice already decided to let Biden skate for his illegal handling and sharing of classified documents, and knee-capped efforts by IRS investigators to look into The Big Guy’s participation in the illicit Biden Inc. influence-for-hire schemes.

What Garland is saying is clear: “We all know that tape would wreck Biden’s campaign. So we’re burying it and there’s not a darn thing you can do about it.”

Just as Anthony Fauci is “The Science,” Garland is “The Law” — and the people’s right to know if their president is rapidly becoming too mentally incapacitated to be trusted to run the country doesn’t matter one bit in comparison to staying in power.

Garland also refused to hand over communications between the DOJ and the likes of Fulton County (Georgia) District Attorney Fani Willis and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg that would demonstrate — or repudiate — the idea that the lawfare against Trump is being coordinated at the highest levels of government. When Committee Chairman Jim Jordan brought up how prosecutor Jack Smith appears to have violated the law by tampering with evidence in the classified-documents case Trump is facing in Florida, Garland called that a “false characterization.” Except, as The Federalist noted, that is precisely what Smith admitted to Judge Aileen Cannon.

Garland Echoes Biden Campaign Theme While Denying Political Motivations

But there was one thing Garland said that spilled the beans, an unwitting confession that the system is rigged.

Imagine, if you will, a Republican attorney general being grilled by Democrats about alleged political bias in the wake of a Republican president arranging the prosecution of his political enemies on dreamed-up charges. And then imagine that attorney general says, “The DOJ is not biased. And despite your criticism, we will continue our work to ‘Make America Great.’”

That’d be a pretty strong signal that attorney general is on the take. That he’s working for one team, and it isn’t Lady Justice’s.

Garland did precisely that during his testimony Tuesday.

He went on a righteous rant about the GOP’s criticism of the Department of Justice, during which he said, “We will not be intimidated. We will not back down from defending democracy.” That’s Biden’s whole campaign: Trump is a threat to “democracy.” And Garland is chirping that tune like a parrot. The Justice Department — in carrying out Biden’s vow to prevent Trump from taking office again using “constitutional means” (aka “lawfare”) — is “preserving democracy.”

Of course, Joe Biden is going to use Trump’s felony conviction to raise money and boost his campaign. That was the whole point all along. And sure enough, that’s what he did at his first post-verdict fundraiser up in Greenwich, Connecticut.

He also performed the typical progressive trick of accusing your opponent of what you yourself have done. In this case, Biden spoke of Trump’s merchandise — “selling Bibles and golden sneakers” — is akin to “selling his presidency to the highest bidder.” That’s an astonishing self-own if there ever was one, considering the millions of dollars evidence shows Biden has personally raked in from foreign governments for many years now.

But he said something else that’s raised a few eyebrows. “This guy does not deserve to be president whether or not I’m running.” Oh? Do you know something we don’t? are you planning to tap out?

If someone else were to say that, the meaning would clearly be, “You’ve got to vote against Trump no matter who he is running against.” But for Biden to say it? The meaning could be anything. And that’s the problem with his mental fog — which takes us back to the Hur tapes. If Merrick Garland is burying evidence that shows the man whose finger on the nuclear button with trouble increasing in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Asia doesn’t know what he’s saying, is he endangering “democracy” by interfering not only in the election, but gambling with our very lives?

… because it’s fun to start the morning with a chuckle, we have to ask: Did she know the mic was still hot?

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) had a viral hot mic moment Tuesday after a Senate presser on Joe Biden’s executive order on the border. As she was walking away from the podium, Ernst’s quip was easily picked up: “Bottom line: Never trust a man whose uncle was eaten by cannibals.”
