The Brew: A Crowned King, a Klutzy Katy and a Newly Combative Tucker Carlson

Good Morning!

It’s Monday, May 8, do you know where the Nashville manifesto is?

But first, horror comes to the Lone Star State.

Terrible Weekend in Texas: Mass Shooting in Allen, Mass Killing With SUV in Brownsville

A tough weekend for Texas. A gunman identified as Mauricio Garcia opened fire at an outlet mall in the Dallas suburb of Allen Saturday killing eight before being taken down by an officer who happened to be at the mall. The gunman was not identified until Sunday afternoon, but “sources close to the investigation” were already labeling the Hispanic Garcia as having “possible ties” to neo-Nazis or White Supremacists. Because White Supremacists and Nazi groups are chock full of Hispanics.

According to the Washington Post, a patch on the tactical gear he was wearing is connected to such groups. It read “RWDS,” which stands for “Right-Wing Death Squad.” Because it’s not possible he got the gear used. Or the “sources” and media have a vested interest in placing blame on white supremacists. Remember? They said Kyle Rittenhouse was a white supremacist too.

Texas was just catching its breath from that horror when an Hispanic man slammed his Range Rover into a group of people at a bus stop outside an immigration detention center in Brownsville. Seven were killed, at least 11 injured in what police said appeared to be an intentional act. We mention the man was Hispanic because initial reaction was to pin the tragedy on “anti-immigrant” rhetoric in the run-up to this week’s end of Title 42. As of Sunday afternoon, the name of the suspect has not been released because, according to Brownsville police investigator Martin Sandoval, he’s been “very uncooperative” and has given police several different names.

So far, no cries to ban “vehicles of war” like the one used in Sunday’s carnage.

Meanwhile, an estimated 700,000 “undocumented migrants” are already set to rush the border when Title 42 ends this Thursday.

β€œGod Save the King”: King Charles III Crowned King in Lush and Lavish Coronation

King Charles III was crowned Saturday with an impressive display of pomp and pageantry, though most of the time he appeared awkward and disconnected from all the fuss. His wife Camilla, who started her public life as the despised mistress who broke up Charles’ marriage to the adored Princess Diana, was crowned Queen. Who woulda thunk it?

At one point in the coronation, the next in line to the throne, William, knelt before his father: β€œI will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God.” He then kissed the king tenderly on the cheek.

Brother Harry, then knelt before a camera, β€œNobody loves me.” (Yes, we’re kidding.) Harry had no formal role in the ceremony and quickly jetted back to California for his son Archie’s 4th birthday party.

Singer Katy Perry managed to steal a bit of the day by amusingly having difficulty finding her seat. And later, after the coronation nearly taking a tumble.

You can almost hear the collective sigh across the British realm: β€œAmericans … β€œ

Perry was a headliner at last night’s coronation concert. Why did Perry get an invite to coronation and the honor of performing? She’s an ambassador for the British Asian Trust, one of Charles’ charities.

Former Marine Who Prevented Assault on Subway Passengers, Only to Face Possible Charge for Murder, Speaks Out

A mentally unstable madman threatens innocent subway passengers. A man steps up to subdue the out-of-control assailant. We used to call that a β€œhero.” To progressives, who loathe the heroic, the masculine, the good … and love turning criminals into martyrs … call this hero a murderer.

A week ago, Jordon Neely, who’d previously been arrested 44 times, was continuing his reign of terror on New York City streets and subway stations, harassing and threatening passengers on an F train. 24-year-old former Marine Daniel Penny joined others in subduing Neely, placing a chokehold on the disturbed individual, as others tried holding down his limbs. Neely lost consciousness and later died at a hospital.

Now AOC and Al Sharpton and the usual crowd are calling for Penny to be charged with murder. They’re also ticked off at NYC Mayor Eric Adams for having the nerve to reserve judgement until the facts are in. Gov. Kathy Hochul feels no such need for facts. She says Neely was killed β€œfor being a passenger on the subway trains.” (A sick irony, given how many have been killed in New York subway stations simply for wanting to ride a subway train.)

Protests have been launched, including blocking subway tracks, attempting to turn this violent and dangerous man into another George Floyd.

Penny, through lawyers, released a statement Friday, noting Neely’s violent and erratic past, along with his untreated mental illness. They say Penny acted to protect himself and others. β€œDaniel never intended to harm Mr. Neely and could not have foreseen his untimely death.”

β€œWe hope that out of this awful tragedy will come a new commitment by our elected officials to address the mental health crisis on your streets and subways.”

We have little hope of that when elected officials like Hochul and AOC see criminals as victims, victims as disposable trash and heroes as villains. Peachy Keenan over at The Federalist had a somber, powerful reflection on how the Left is sending the message that β€œyour courage and sacrifice will be punished.”

Selective Outrage

On Sunday, Elon Musk asked a simple question: β€œWhy didn’t they protest the children who were murdered at the Christian school?”

Speaking of which, Nashville police have reversed their decision to release the β€œmanifesto” from the transgender mass murderer who took out six people, including three children.

Police claim their lawyers advised against releasing the document, due to two lawsuits. Which is hysterical, since one of the suits was to force the release of the manifesto.

Axios: Tucker Ready to Go to Defcon 1 to Gain Freedom From Fox News

Fox News dumped Tucker Carlson, but still technically has him under contract until January 2025 and reportedly wants to keep him out of action until after the election. Tucker, naturally, wants his freedom. Thus far, according to Axios, he’s been rebuffing friends who want to go after Fox, saying he’s wanted to get a settlement β€œdone quiet and clean.” But with Fox News leaking damaging stories about him, that could be changing. β€œNow, we’re going from peacetime to Defcon 1,” a friend told Axios, because Tucker knows exactly β€œwhere the bodies are buried.”

Since their shocking firing of Tucker, ratings for the cable news giant have dropped by more than half.

So what’s Tucker going to do? Axios reports Tucker is plotting a media empire of his own, perhaps with a direct-to-consumer media outlet, like Bill O’Reilly has done. He and Elon Musk also had a conversation about teaming up, but didn’t discuss specifics.

Tucker’s also reportedly been talking to Donald Trump about hosting an alternative GOP primary debate. Currently, the first RNC-sponsored debate is scheduled for Fox News.

Administration Backs Down After Threatening Catholic Hospital Over Gas-Powered Candle

At what point do we just admit this administration is persecuting Catholics? The latest? HHS threated to cut off Medicare, Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance funding at a Catholic hospital because of … wait for it … the hospital has a gas-powered sacred candle.

In other words, they were in essence threatening to shut down the hospital.

HHS only dropped its effort when the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty threatened to sue the government on behalf of Saint Francis Health System in Tulsa.

The government claimed the candle as a hazard. Sure. According to a Becket press release, the candle is “far from medical equipment and patients, is shielded by two glass holders, sits on a brass basin, is affixed to a wall and has a brass top covering it, with many sprinkler heads above it.”

This is hardly the first incident where the administration has gone after Catholics. The DOJ is on a campaign to round up pro-life activists, has moved at sloth speed to find the pro-abortion terrorists burning and vandalizing Catholic churches and pregnancy centers, and the FBI was caught trying to infiltrate traditional Catholic churches in Richmond.
