Something is a little different in San Francisco over the past few days. Posters appeared around town casting Ted Cruz in a new way: as a superhero called The Liberator. In a speech bubble, Cruz is pictured saying “I don’t work for the party bosses in Washington. I work for YOU.”

This isn’t the first time Ted Cruz has been the subject of street art in California. Last spring, posters popped up in Los Angeles showing him as a tattooed bad boy with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. Artists just can’t get enough of Cruz. I spoke with the anonymous artist behind this latest movement, who said that the idea was to show that Cruz was going against the establishment, working to make changes for Americans. “I took the super hero route,” the artist said, “because we honestly need someone brave enough to go against the status quo and help ‘liberate’ us from government regulation and the IRS.”

The project is gaining attention, with a recently-launched store offering “Liberator” merchandise.

The team behind the posters say they love seeing him cast in  this role. “Cruz has the mild-mannered appearance of a Peter Parker or a Clark Kent,” the team told Truth Revolt,  “but when push comes to shove he has suited up and fought fearlessly for liberty.”
