Target Trump
The double-whammy of Paul Manafort’s conviction and Michael Cohen’s guilty plea has sent the mainstream media and Trump “Resistance” into double-back flips of joy. Maxine Waters has already bought the booze for an impeachment party. Bill Kristol’s opting for the $1000-a-bottle champagne.
USA Today declares “Trump’s Moment of Truth is at Hand.” A moment of truth would be nice. So here goes:
That Manafort’s conviction has zero to do with Trump means nothing. That it has zero to do with Russian collusion means nothing. That the Feds passed on prosecuting Manafort for his old sins until he worked for Trump means nothing. That he only worked for Trump about as long as Kim Kardashian was married to the basketball player means nothing. That the Swamp is filled with creatures who do exactly what Manafort did means nothing. That this includes his partners in slime and longtime Clinton inner circle operatives, the Podesta Brothers, means nothing.
That Lady Justice is leaning so far in one direction she’s practically horizontal means nothing.
All that matters is inflicting damage on Trump. “Rich Guy Tries Hiding Cash from IRS. Fails” isn’t news. However, guilt by association? That’s worth 24/7 coverage.
Cohen Pleads
Michael Cohen? Sure. Try casting a “shady New York lawyer” and out would pop a Michael Cohen. (An associate who met him said he seemed “like a mob type.” I’m thinking if he did work for the mob and they saw how easily he turned on a client he’d be feeding worms in the swamps of Jersey by now.)
But again, the real crimes he pleaded guilty to had nothing to do with Trump.
Hellzapoppin’, though, over the pleas involving campaign finance. More specifically, Cohen paying a couple women to not run around during the campaign sharing tawdry tales about Trump. As Mark Levin detailed Tuesday night, what Cohen pleaded guilty to simply are not crimes.
So why did he plead guilty to those charges if they aren’t crimes? Levin suggested Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis was incompetent.
The Great One is wrong. Davis signed off on the plea so he could have this tweet:
Today he stood up and testified under oath that Donald Trump directed him to commit a crime by making payments to two women for the principal purpose of influencing an election. If those payments were a crime for Michael Cohen, then why wouldn't they be a crime for Donald Trump?
— Lanny Davis (@LannyDavis) August 21, 2018
“If those payments were a crime for Michael Cohen, then why wouldn’t they be a crime for Donald Trump?”
With this, Lanny Davis was acting on behalf of his client. His longtime client. That client being Hillary Clinton.
Every news story should — but won’t — identify who Lanny Davis is. He’s so tethered to the Clintons he may well be that mysterious lump on Hillary’s back. Yes, he’s such a genial sweetie-pie you can’t help but call him Lanny. But Lanny Davis is — above all — a savage protector and promoter of the Clintons in court and out. That’s literally been his business for decades, from his days as Bill Clinton’s general counsel until today.
Getting a chance to avenge her defeat AND helping Cohen get a fraction of the time he deserves? Great. The only question is whether he gets to double-bill his time.
So, let’s summarize: The investigation that was launched by a bogus dossier paid for by Hillary now includes a Trump-implicating guilty plea by a guy whose lawyer is also in Hillary’s pocket.
But here’s the irony, even Lanny says much of the dossier is bogus.
Lanny Further Proves Russia Collusion is a Hoax
That’s the twist that won’t be running on CNN and MSNBC 24/7: Lanny Davis is dramatically undercutting the Trump Collusion narrative.
Michael Cohen is a key character in the Steele Dossier. It alleges, for example, that Cohen secretly traveled to Prague to meet with Russians as key element in this alleged collusion business. A lie. In fact, Davis says all 13 claims about Cohen are false. (Further proof that the only way that dossier should have been inside FBI headquarters was if it were a tourist. Instead it was used to secure FISA warrants to spy on the Trump campaign.)
It gets better. Last night on CNN, Lanny blew up to a recent CNN “bombshell” that sent thrills up every Never Trumper’s leg. CNN reported on July 27 that Cohen had told prosecutors Donald Trump knew beforehand about Don Jr’s Trump Tower meeting. That Cohen had been in the room when Don Jr. mentioned it. Total hogwash, Davis revealed. Never happened. In his words, their report was “mixed up.”
“Mixed up.” That’s a Clinton operative’s way of telling the Clinton News Network their story was “fake news.”
To his credit, Anderson Cooper wanted to make sure the point was clear.
“So Michael Cohen does not have information that President Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting with the Russians beforehand or even after?” he asked Davis.
“No, he does not.”
At which point Cooper stood up and apologized to the American people for his network having duped the nation yet again.
One can only dream.
So On To Impeachment Talk We Go
So despite the Trump Russia Collusion proving by the day to be an illusion — despite these convictions having nothing to do with Trump, except for a guilty plea to something that wasn’t a crime — we now get to enjoy the revived talk of “impeachment.”
Hollywood has a term for it. It’s called “summer reruns.”
But maybe it’s more like the Terminator. It will not rest. It will not reason. It will not stop — but for commercial breaks and congressional floor votes — until Trump is dead. Politically or otherwise.
