Sunny Side of The Stream: Study Links More Exercise, Less Screen Time to Toddlers’ Ability to Plan, Remember and Focus

A toddler’s ability to plan, remember, focus, switch between tasks and regulate his own behavior may not be something we think about often. Planning and focusing are skills some of us adults are still working on. But these skills, called executive function, can help a toddler demonstrate self control, remember her parent’s instructions and engage in goal-directed behaviors.
A study reported in The Journal of Pediatrics found that 24-month-olds who spend less than an hour on screen time per day and get more than an hour of exercise per day tend to score higher in their executive function skills than the toddlers who don’t meet those guidelines.
It’s no surprise that exercise and freedom from screens is good for us, even at an early age.
