Stream Splashes: September 2-8 in Review
Every week, The Stream rounds up some highlights from the recent news. We call these our “splashes”: everything from insightful commentary on the week’s big events to small inspiring stories you may have missed.
On Monday, August 27, Stream founder James Robison joined a distinguished group of evangelical leaders at a formal dinner at the White House hosted by President Trump and the first lady. The President invited the group to openly share and pray. What follows is an expression of gratitude to God for the positive progress we are seeing.
We’ve seen the effect of good counsel in the positive decisions and policies that are being put into place to correct the serious ills in our nation. Opportunity abounds. Law and order has returned to the forefront. The lie of socialism and damaging, foolish dependence on the federal government has been exposed. Religious freedom is being protected.
About half way through the summer, I was exhausted and addicted. My obsession with knowing what was going on everywhere was destroying my ability to be present in any particular moment.
I’ve learned that the news is not only addicting, but it’s nearly always depressing. Even in my down time, there seemed to be no escaping the news. The darkness of the world seemed to encroach on every aspect of my life. I became anxious at times and couldn’t explain why.
And that’s when I would go to prayer. That’s when I needed silence.
President Trump thinks Pope Francis is handling the priest sex abuse crisis “as well as he could,” according to WMAL radio personality Vince Colonese, who interviewed the President in the Oval Office yesterday.
Colonese says the president “looked sad” as he talked about the crisis in the Church, particularly since he has had a longtime relationship with the Church.
Brown University, perhaps the quirkiest of the Ivy League schools, recently removed from its website information about a peer-reviewed study on gender confusion.
The study is called “Rapid-onset gender dysphoria in adolescents and young adults.” It looks at hundreds of cases of young people with a condition that appears during or after puberty in individuals who have not previously experienced gender dysphoria.
