Stream Splashes: January 6-12 in Review
Every week, The Stream rounds up some highlights from the recent news. We call these our “splashes”: everything from insightful commentary on the week’s big events to small inspiring stories you may have missed.
How can House Speaker Nancy Pelosi look at the victims of illegal immigrants with a straight face and declare that building a border wall is “immoral”? Some might say “years of skin-stiffening plastic surgery” — but that’s not my answer. After all, her claim is far more than skin deep. It’s so cynical, so designed to paint proponents of border security as heartless, amoral people, so deadly, that it needs a serious answer.
President Trump’s Oval Office address on immigration hit a mighty emotion in me. One I found hard to characterize or, for once, put into words. A feeling crept up on me, and took its time doing its work deep in my gut, until it poked out its nose and stared me down, eye to eye.
It wasn’t my own emotion. That would have been easy. Instead, it was Trump’s which I caught by contagion.
The Stream’s Jennifer Hartline recently wrote about an 11-year-old boy whose parents have allowed him to enter the drag lifestyle. The boy was featured on Good Morning America, where we’re told his parents have taken him to participate in gay pride parades. They’ve even let him dance on stage at a gay bar. It’s heartbreaking, the life these parents are leading their boy into. Please pray this family finds Truth.
But the biggest thing that stuck out to me was the expression on the dad’s face.
Tucker Carlson is right. But his method is wrong.
Tucker Carlson’s monologue on Jan. 2 set off a firestorm of negative commentary. I want to say for the record: I agree completely with Carlson’s closing statement, “If you want to put America first, you’ve got to put its families first.” But I disagree with the wrappings in which Carlson presented his important message.
