Special D-Day Message from James Robison

By The Stream Published on June 6, 2024

The Stream cofounder and Publisher James Robison reflects on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when thousands of Americans and our allies laid down their lives in defense of freedom.

Jesus died to set us free from slavery to sin. Our nation’s founders risked being hanged, and many lost all they owned, while making concrete in lasting institutions the freedom that every child of God deserves. But how many of us now live in that freedom, and value it at the blood price which it demanded? Do we sacrifice ourselves to pass that freedom along to the next generation? Or will we leave behind a world that is less free, less like the Kingdom, than the one we inherited?

Prayerfully remembering those who risked all, or lost all, to pay freedom forward to us should inspire us to honor their example and live it out in our own risky, often frightening times. We have Jesus’s promise that He is always with us, even to the end of the world.
