Making the Best of Our Own Boo-Hoo

This week The Stream had to send off our beloved editor-in-chief John Melton to a new season in the Florida sun. He was such an inspiration. I remember when he joined The Stream, he told us he’d been praying for us each by name daily. John is a servant-hearted leader who juggled so much and yet cared for us. Ever respectful and encouraging, his office was a safe space to express concerns, ask questions, share thoughts and hear wisdom. We hope this piece by Al Perrotta inspires you.

‘You Need Anything?’

For Father’s Day

I wrote this one a couple years ago for Father’s Day to honor both my earthly dad and heavenly Father. I’ve always been amazed at all my dad can do and the way he uses his skills to bless our family, and I’m sure I got some of my creativity from him.

I Got It From My Father

This is just too precious:

Thank you to all the dads out there. I have a wonderful dad as well as spiritual fathers. Not all father figures are biological fathers, so I want to thank all the good, caring men helping to raise up the younger generations, offering provision, protection, wisdom and support. Someone who offers a strong arm to hold us and and a chest to cry into. Someone who passes on traits and life skills.

I love seeing dads be dads. Like when an elder in my house church stops praying because his little girl is asking him a question, and then patiently accommodates her and keeps on praying. I’ve even seen my dad father a grown man who was homeless when my father started employing him and pouring into him. Years later they met up and he had a job and an apartment. He thanked my dad for teaching him life skills and being the father to him that he never had. Thank you, godly men, for showing us the Father’s heart!

And to those who have a hard time on Father’s Day, suffering wounds from a lack of a father or an abusive father, I am so sorry. I do not know the depth of that ache but I know it is deep. God made us to need a father’s love. I pray for healing from the Father’s heart and for godly men to help bring redemption.
