Signs That Bill Barr, John Durham Are Really on the Case

Last week, it was reported that two Blackberrys belonging to Western-not-Russian-intelligence official Joseph Mifsud had been recovered. This was according to retired Army Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn’s spectacular attorney, Sidney Powell.

In a brief filed last Monday, Powell asked presiding District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan to order the government to turn over the Blackberrys’ data, as it is “material, exculpatory and relevant to the defense” of her client. She had asked prosecutors to provide the material, but it appears Andrew Weissmann threw her request into the memory hole.

But initial reports of this story failed to detail exactly how and by whom the Blackberrys were recovered. And that, to me, is one of the most intriguing and heartening aspects of the story.

Durham Closes In on the Mysterious Misfud

Thanks to Washington Times reporter Rowan Scarborough, we have learned that it was U.S.Attorney John Durham’s investigation that turned up the Blackberrys belonging to the mysterious Mifsud. Misfud’s a Maltese professor who appears for all the world to have been shadowing Mike Flynn and former Trump campaign associates George Papadopoulos and Carter Page during the 2016 Presidential campaign. Powell herself was Scarborough’s source for the information.

Mifsud was part of the effort to help the FBI justify opening its “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation intended to catch Trump in the crossfire of their examination of Russia’s interference in our election. George Papadopoulos maintains that it was Mifsud, in London in April of 2016, who “planted” the information on him that Russia had thousands of Hillary’s emails.

Mueller’s special counsel “investigation” glossed over Mifsud, failing to mention his numerous associations with Western diplomats and intelligence figures. The FBI and Mueller proceeded on the assumption that Mifsud was a Russian asset. But now our Justice Department, led by Attorney General William Barr, seems determined to find out what he was really up to and on behalf of what government or entity.

About Durham’s trip to Rome (where Mifsud was teaching), a DOJ spokesperson released this statement:

As the Department has previously announced, a team led by U.S. Attorney John Durham is investigating the origins of the U.S. counterintelligence probe of the Trump 2016 presidential campaign. Mr. Durham is gathering information from numerous sources, including a number of foreign countries. At Attorney General Barr’s request, the President has contacted other countries to ask them to introduce the Attorney General and Mr. Durham to appropriate officials.

Links to Western Intelligence

If you’ve read Papadoupoulos’ book, Deep State Target, you know that Link University, the school in Rome at which Prof. Mifsud taught, was populated with numerous NATO and U.S. intel figures and seemed to him to be more of a “school for spies” than an academic destination. I recommend his book highly, especially if you’re still hazy if not downright mystified by the parts played by such shadowy characters as Mifsud and Stefan Halper.

Trust me, it’ll all start making sense to you, and you’ll see why Papadopoulos was suspicious of his strange international contacts from the start. These may seem like peripheral players, but they are key to what was going on.

On this week’s Sunday Morning Futures, Devin Nunes, ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, told Maria Bartiromo that Mifsud is “the guy — that we should’ve gotten to the bottom of…With Mueller’s $35 million probe, we should’ve known exactly what Joseph Mifsud was up to, because he’s the one that supposedly first knew about the emails.”

He wondered why Mueller, if his goal really was to look at Russian “meddling,” wouldn’t have spent the first part of the investigation getting the real story about Mifsud.

Nunes made the additional point that it would have been critical to know if Mifsud was indeed a Russian agent if he was teaching our own FBI agents at Link University! It would mean our FBI and State Department had been compromised. And if Mifsud wasn’t a Russian agent, then we must answer this question: who WAS he working for? (I think we have a good idea.) But the Mueller report hardly looked at Mifsud at all.

Just thought you’d like to know that Barr and Durham appear to be on this case like white on rice. If you’d like a brief recap of just how Mifsud’s activities tie into the schemes of our own top FBI officials, Scarborough’s piece would be a good read — along with Papadopoulos’ book, of course.
