In the spring of 2019, there were approximately 2.5 million homeschool students in the U.S. By the 2020-2021 school year, that number had grown to 3.7 million — with more families choosing this option each day, according to the National Home Education Research Institute. Today, Friday, November 12, at 2:00 pm CST, a new homeschooling film will be released as a streaming event. See the trailer below!

“I felt very inadequate as a mom to have the ability to teach my kids. And for some reason I thought I was kind of alone in that camp.” Yvette Hampton, podcaster, filmmaker, and homeschooling mom, learned that she was not. In 2016, Yvette and her husband sold their house and took homeschooling on the road. For three years they and their two daughters traveled the country.

“As we’ve traveled, we have really realized that pretty much every mom we come in contact with feels the same way, you know, just feels like she’s just somehow not enough. She’s not smart enough, not adequate enough, not organized enough. Like she just doesn’t have all that it takes to homeschool her kids successfully. “It was really eye-opening for me to realize that, oh, pretty much every mom feels this way. It’s not just me, not just our family.”

Schoolhouse Rocked: The Film

The Hamptons recorded their on-the-road homeschool experience, including Yvette’s conversations with other homeschooling moms and dads, answering questions about the why and how of homeschooling. They titled it Schoolhouse Rocked: The Homeschool Revolution. The film will be released today Friday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m. CST, as a streaming event.

The cast includes Sam Sorbo, who is an author, speaker, film producer, radio host and homeschooling mom; Andrew Pudewa, homeschool curriculum creator and founder of the Institute for Excellence in Writing; and author, speaker and homeschooling mom Heidi St. John, along with many others. “So we answer every question … that people have about homeschooling, whether it’s the socialization or single parent homeschooling or if you have a child who has a disability, how do you homeschool that child? [W]e answer all of those questions in the movie through different testimonies of all the different cast members.”

It May be Difficult, But It is Full of Blessings

The family hopes to debunk misconceptions about homeschooling and encourage homeschooling parents. “We wanted to validate those who are already homeschooling and say, ‘You are doing such a good job. Keep going. Don’t give up.’ It’s hard, but anything worth doing is hard. Marriage is hard. Parenting is hard. … But there’s also so much blessing in it.”

One of the blessings is the ability to teach a Christian worldview, said Yvette. “We’re a Christian family, so it was really important to us that we teach our girls everything from a biblical worldview. And we had the opportunity to do that in everything that they were learning.” That’s not the case with most schools. In fact, many schools teach concepts that go contrary to the Word of God. “And so, we really want parents to realize that they have a great responsibility to shepherd the hearts of their children and to instill biblical truth into their hearts.”

The Lord Will Provide

The Hamptons want people to get excited about homeschooling and to know they do have what it takes to homeschool their children and that the Lord will provide what they need to be successful. “When I say, ‘I have what it takes,’ it’s not because I’m super smart, super well-educated or super organized or any of those things. It’s because God provides me with what I need in order to teach my children what they need to learn.” She added that God will get the glory in the end. “I’ll be able to look back and just say, ‘Look what the Lord did with my children because we were willing to say ‘Yes’ to His call for us to homeschool our kids.”
