Rick Santorum Shares the Pro-Life Story of Bella
The GOP candidate and his eldest daughter, Elizabeth, shared Bella's Gift with James and Betty Robison on Life Today.
Before he announced he was a candidate in the 2016 U.S. presidential race, Rick Santorum and his eldest daughter came on Life Today to share a pro-life story they have lived out in their home.
In 2008, daughter Bella was born with a rare genetic condition called Trisomy 18 or Edwards syndrome. Each of her cells has an extra 18th chromosome, a genetic code doctors say is “incompatible with life.” Bella Santorum was given only a one-in-ten chance of reaching her first birthday.
Today she is seven.
Santorum sat down to share Bella’s story with James and Betty Robison for Monday’s Life Today program. The former U.S. senator and his oldest daughter reveals the difficult journey and joy Bella has brought the Santorum family. To see the show, check your local listings or simply follow this link.
Bella’s full story can be found in the powerful book Rick, his wife Nancy and Elizabeth published earlier this year called Bella’s Gift: How One Little Girl Transformed Our Family and Inspired a Nation.
As columnist Kathryn Jean Lopez concluded in her article about the book: “Love — nurtured in families even in the most difficult circumstances — can lift even politics.”
