Puerto Rican Rapper Daddy Yankee Tells Audience He’s Retiring to Live for Jesus: ‘Christ Lives in Me’
Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, best known for his 2017 song “Despacito,” has said that he will retire to devote his life to Jesus, USA Today reported. He will finish his farewell tour “La Meta” December 2023.
The rapper, born RamΓ³n Luis Ayala RodrΓguez, posted on Facebook that he is not ashamed to tell others he found Christ. He wrote: “Family: This day for me, is the most important day in my life. [T]onight I recognize and am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Christ lives in me and that I will live for him. This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of a brand new one. ‘For what profits a man to gain the whole world, if he loses his life? Or how much can a man pay for his life? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father and with his angels, and then he will reward each one according to what he has done.’ St. Matthew 16:26-27 Amen.”
According to a clip from his tour posted on Instagram, Daddy Yankee told his audience that he was going to live for Christ. “My people, this day for me is the most important day of my life. And I want to share it with you because living a life of success is not the same as living a life with purpose.”

He also said that he had felt emptiness for a long time, but Christ filled the void.
βWhat good will it be for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?β He told the crowd. “That is why tonight, I recognize, and I am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Jesus lives in me and that I will live for him.”
He also encouraged the audience to follow Jesus, too. “To all the people who followed me, follow Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life. Just like Jesus, with his mercy, allowed me to travel the world, in your mercy, Father, I hope you allow me to evangelize the world from Puerto Rico.”
