This is Part 8 of a 14-part series on how to confront leftist indoctrination in your child’s school. Pressuring your school board will look significantly different than engaging with it. Skill sets we’ve already discussed in this series become an essential part of the process to move the fight in the right direction.

If pressure is necessary, that means that the board remains resistant to the concerns of parents and other members of the community. The operational method for initial and sustained engagement requires a forceful approach that may result in you being removed from a meeting or silenced in some other way.

To effectively pressure a school board, you must shape the battlefield at the outset by framing the issue(s) of concern in a manner that compels the board to act. 

Research

The more resistant your school board, the more important your research becomes. You must have your proverbial ducks in a row with evidence of the worrisome content, curricula, or activities occurring in your school system.

Most of the board members will have earned ratings of “3,” “4,” or “5” if you are being forced to pressure them. You should investigate each member’s social media accounts and websites, review their public statements, and spend time researching their past board decisions and votes.

Create Google Alerts for keywords, names, and phrases so that when commentary on CRT, DEI, Radical Gender Theory, and any other radical ideology occurs, search engines highlight it and you can keep up with the latest developments on these issues.

Attend at least two meetings to put together a basic profile of the individuals on your school board. Note their temperaments, priorities, and how the individual members engage with the public.

Ask your support network to help you develop a body of work concerning issues and board decisions that will be useful in future meetings. Resistant boards require sustained, continual pressure in order to keep the issues of concern at the forefront and develop broader public awareness.

When Pressure Meets Resistance

If necessary, obtain public records of past school board meetings to develop greater insight into the board members’ mindsets and priorities. However, the information you seek may not be prominently displayed or otherwise readily available. School systems increasingly hide or disguise their radical ideologies due to growing awareness and pressure.

Learn how to make public records requests through either the Freedom of Information Act for federal documents or through the public information request process your school board or local government requires.

Look for specific information regarding training, curricula, employee titles, programs, materials, school system budgets, and emails promoting radical ideologies (CRT, DEI, Radical Gender Theory, etc.). Remember that those specific terms are rarely used, so be sure to familiarize yourself with the concepts to determine the extent of the problem. 

If the powers that be attempt to drag their feet in making decisions, charge excessive fees, or are otherwise non-responsive to information requests, this means you either are on the right track and the school board/system is hiding something, or it is time to explore legal options for getting access to the information.
