“Blow a trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly” (Joel 2:15)

A National Solemn Assembly has been called for believers of every denomination to unite Wednesday and seek God’s face in repentance and to pray together for “forgiveness, wisdom and provision for our nation.” The event, called The Gathering, will take place between 7:00 p.m and 9:00 p.m. central time and feature prominent pastors and Christian teachers from around the nation.

The Gathering will be hosted by Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, with some 3,000 churches around the country showing the assembly remotely. Individuals and families can sign up for the simulcast as well.

The expressed goal of The Gathering is to turn the nation back to God through individual restoration and commitment, a strengthening of the family and its adherence to Godly principles and a renewed outreach to others in the community. The Gathering claims 2 Chronicles 7:14 as its scriptural foundation:

If my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Organizers insist The Gathering will not promote political agendas, merchandise or personalities.

Scheduled speakers will not preach. They will lead the congregation in prayer for individuals, families, churches and the nation. Those  speakers include The Stream‘s James Robison and Sheila Walsh, Dr. Tony Evans, Max Lucado, Greg Laurie, Anne Graham Lotz, Priscilla Shirer, and Sammy Rodriguez. Says Walsh, “I hope The Gathering will be a time of repentance, prayer and a refocusing on God’s heart for our nation.”

Those unable to attend in person are encouraged to take part by signing up for The Gathering simulcast.
