Pro-Choice NARAL Tries to Pin Failed Zika Funding on Rubio, but Dems Blocked the Bill
Democratic pro-choice group NARAL launched an attack against Florida Sen. Marco Rubio Thursday for blocking the Zika funding bill — but Democrats are the ones who keep voting against it.
“The ad hits the Senator for not funding women’s health clinics and for not allowing women infected with the disease to get an abortion,” NARAL states in the group’s press release.

“Senator Rubio is putting the interests of extreme right-wing groups ahead of the women of Florida,” Senior Vice President for Campaigns and Strategy at NARAL Sasha Bruce said. “Rubio’s actions are putting women and families in Florida, ground zero for this outbreak, at much greater risk. Women deserve a full range of health care options, including abortion, not options limited by Senator Rubio’s extreme and out-of-touch political beliefs.”
The ads are set to run in the key battleground parts of Florida — Orlando and West Palm Beach. NARAL also has ad campaigns attacking conservatives in Tennessee and Mississippi.

Rubio voted for the spending authorization bill both times it entered the Senate. Democrats united against the bill because of related language they argue would weaken Obamacare.
“Patrick Murphy is the only candidate to have voted against every measure to fund Zika – once again putting himself and his political aspirations before Floridians.” Rubio spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
