‘God Protected President Trump’: Former President ‘Fine’ After Attempted Assassination at Pennsylvania Rally
“The former president is safe.” That was the word from the Secret Service after several shots were fired at Donald Trump at his rally this evening in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The former president and GOP nominee was slightly wounded in the assassination attempt. The Associated Press reports the would-be assassin has been killed by Secret Service snipers. According to the Secret Service, the unidentified suspect fired several shots toward the stage “from an elevated position outside the venue.” Tragically, the AP also reports another attendee at the rally also lost his or her life in the attack.

Video of the apparent assassination attempt shows Trump reaching for his ear, then hitting the ground as Secret Service agents swarm on top of him. While the former president was then ushered off the stage under his own power and was seen pumping his fist several times in defiance, it appears the bullet grazed him on or just above the top of his ear.
There was no immediate word on how seriously Trump was injured, though his campaign has released a statement saying he is “fine” and is being checked out at a local medical facility.
TRUMP CAMPAIGN STATEMENT:
βPresident Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.β

Trump Statement
President Trump released a statement on Truth Social.
I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Daughter Ivanka also expressed her thanks.
ThankΒ you for your love and prayers for my father and for the other victims of today's senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania. I am grateful to the Secret Service and all the other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive actions today. I continue to pray for ourβ¦

Our prayers go out to the 45th president for his full and quick recovery. In fact, given how close that bullet came to doing major damage, we can suggest the multitude of prayers for protection for Donald Trump have proven fruitful. Sen. Marco Rubio, rumored to be a finalist for Trump’s running mate, put it best: βGod protected President Trump.”
Early Reaction
Prayers immediately began pouring in from both sides of the aisle.
North Dakota governor and potential Trump running mate Doug Burgum said, βWe all know President Trump is stronger than his enemies. Today he showed it.”
Former President Barack Obama bemoaned political violence and sent his and Michelle Obama’s best wishes for a speedy recovery.
There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we donβt yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasnβt seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics.β¦

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who on Wednesday called predictions that Trump’s enemies would try to kill him “outlandish,” expressed his relief that Trump is safe.
I am horrified by what happened at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania and relieved that former President Trump is safe. Political violence has no place in our country.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who knows the horrors of political assassination better than anyone, was quick to call for the nation to unite to pray for the former president.
Now is the time for every American who loves our country to step back from the division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family.

Former HUD Secretary Ben Carson spoke of God’s protection.
They tried to bankrupt him. They tried to slander him. They tried to imprison him. Now they have tried to kill him, but if God is protecting him, they will never succeed.

“They tried to bankrupt him. They tried to slander him. They tried to imprison him,” he tweeted. “Now they have tried to kill him, but if God is protecting him, they will never succeed.”

CNN reached a new low in cruelty or incompetence by posting this headline:

The outlet quickly updated the headline to “Trump injured in incident at rally.” “Incident”?
The Babylon Bee made quick work of the once-great network.

Biden Says He’s Grateful Trump Is Safe … After Months of Demonization
It took about an 90 minutes, but finally a statement came from Joe Biden — or at least the official @POTUS account.
I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trumpβs rally in Pennsylvania.Β
Iβm grateful to hear that heβs safe and doing well. Iβm praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.

Joe Biden has spent three and a half years calling Trump an βinsurrectionist,β a βthreat to democracy,β and a dictator he compares to Hitler. Just five days ago, he told donors in a private call, β”Weβre done talking about the debate, itβs time to put Trump in a bullseye.”
In a brief live address from his beach home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Biden said he was grateful the former president is doing well and hoped to be speaking with him later this evening.

Ministry Leaders
LIFE Outreach International Founder James Robison got in touch with the Trump family shortly after the shooting to express his concern.
“Hatred comes from Satan, the father of lies and the murderer,” he told The Stream afterward, “and can only be overcome by unconditional love. We must establish forces of resistance offering protection. I call on every lover of faith, family, and freedom to stand together in intercessory prayer for the healing our nation so desperately needs.”
Likewise, Focus on the Family President Jim Daly said he was grateful Trump was not seriously injured.
“We are praying earnestly for Mr. Trump and his family and the loved ones of the bystander who was killed — and we ask our fellow Christians to call on our mighty and merciful God to comfort all those affected,” he said. “While the full details of what occurred are still rightfully being carefully investigated, it is in no way premature to cal for Americans of all ideological perspectives, Republicans and Democrats alike, to commit to bringing greater civility to their advocacy in the public square.
“We should and must be better as a nation in our ability to lean into our shared humanity when we disagree on matters of public policy. Today’s events should steel our resolve to do just that moving forward.”
