Planned Parenthood Execs Discuss Grisly Procedures in New Undercover Video

"The fetus is a tough little object and, taking it apart ... is very difficult."

“I might ask for a second set of forceps to hold the body at the cervix, and pull off a leg, or two, so it’s not PBA [partial-birth abortion].” That’s Dr. Ann Schutt-Aine, recorded in a new Center for Medical Progress (CMP) video released Thursday. She’s Director of Abortion Services at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.

CMP is known for its undercover journalism exposing the illegal practices of Planned Parenthood and its affiliates. Journalists David Daleidan and Sandra Merritt first exposed Planned Parenthood’s profiting off fetal tissue in 2015. Daleiden is also the president of CMP. Both Daleiden and Merritt have been charged in California with 15 felony counts for recording people without their permission.

Their newest video previews footage taken in 2014 and 2015 at the National Abortion Federation conferences. According to CMP, “NAF hosts a secretive, annual meeting trade show every year in April.” Planned Parenthood makes up about 50 percent of the group’s members and leaders, the video says.

Shortly after the video’s release Thursday, a federal judge ordered it be removed. U.S. District Judge William Orrick had reportedly barred Daleiden from releasing the footage. After links to the new video appeared on the website of Daleiden and Merritt’s legal counsel, Orrick threatened to hold Daleiden in contempt. While the video can no longer be found on YouTube, you can view it here.

Daledian and Merritt’s legal counsel did not respond to The Stream’s request for comment.

‘Pull Off a Leg, Or Two’

Warning: Quotes below are graphic and will be troubling to some.

The video shows Planned Parenthood leaders discussing in gruesome detail abortion procedures, such as tearing babies apart limb by limb. Schutt-Aine describes how she keeps her abortions from becoming partial birth abortions, since the procedure is illegal.

Partial birth abortions remove a living baby’s entire, intact body from the womb, except for its head. The baby is then killed by the abortionist puncturing the base of his skull. His brains are sucked out, the skull collapsed, and the dead baby then delivered.

“If I’m doing a procedure, and I’m seeing that I’m in fear that it’s about to come to the umbilicus [navel],” says Schutt-Anne, she holds the child’s body at the cervix and kills him there. She has to kill him before his body up to the neck passes the cervix.

“Let’s just give them all the violence, it’s a person, it’s killing, let’s just give them all that.”

Another Planned Parenthood official, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, describes how she performs abortions when a research partner requests a brain.

“We’ll, you know, leave the calvarium [skull] in until last, and then try to basically … catch everything and even keep it separate from the rest of the tissue so it doesn’t get lost.” Nucatola is the Senior Director of Medical Services at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. (She is also the woman seen in the first CMP video casually feasting on salad and red wine while discussing the ripping apart of babies.)

‘Financial Incentive’

Once again, subjects in the video seem to admit that abortion clinics often profit from selling fetal tissue.

“But the truth is that some might want to do it for, to increase their revenues,” said Deb Van Derhei. “And we can’t stop them.” Van Derhei is the National Director for the Consortium of Abortion Providers at Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Another Planned Parenthood official indicated her superiors “will be very happy about” the “financial incentive” from a potential buyer.

“I know Planned Parenthood sells a lot of stuff to people,” said Dr. Paul Blumenthal. He’s a medical director for Planned Parenthood of Maryland.

“I know Planned Parenthood sells a lot of stuff to people.”

CMP’s first video in 2015 sparked a nationwide uproar after it exposed Planned Parenthood executives discussing monetary compensation from research companies for fetal tissue. Multiple videos have followed since.

The footage, obtained by Daleiden and Merritt, caused both Congressional houses to investigate Planned Parenthood. According to Rep. Diane Black of the House panel, the investigation “laid bare the grisly reality” that abortionists are “driven by profit.”

Since then both Daleiden and Merritt have faced felony charges. Most recently the state of California charged them with 15 felonies for their undercover recordings. On Thursday with the release of the newest video, law firm Steve Cooley and Associates (SCA) announced its legal defense of the two.

Daleiden and his attorneys, Steve Cooley and Brentford Ferreira, have been ordered to appear in court on June 14 while Orrick considers contempt sanctions after Daleiden released the latest video Thursday.

‘It’s a Person, It’s Killing, Let’s Just Give Them All That’

Several more quotes from the video make clear why Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Association fought so hard in court, and called on their political allies, to crush CMP’s efforts to make these videos public. They are damning.

Dr. Lisa Harris, Medical Director, Planned Parenthood of Michigan (during panel discussions):

Our stories don’t really have a place in a lot of pro-choice discourse and rhetoric, right? The heads that get stuck that we can’t get out. [Laughter] The hemorrhages that we manage. You know, those are all parts of our experience. But there’s no real good place for us to share those.

[Later]

Given that we actually see the fetus the same way, and given that we might actually both agree that there’s violence in here, ask me why I come to work everyday. Let’s just give them all the violence, it’s a person, it’s killing, let’s just give them all that.

Dr. Susan Robinson, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte:

The fetus is a tough little object and, taking it apart, I mean taking it apart, on day one, is very difficult.

[Later]

You go in there, and you go, “Am I getting the uterus, or the fetus? Oh good fetus. [Stabbing/grunting sound] What have I got? Nothing. Let’s try again.”

Dr. Uta Landy, founder of PPFA’s Consortium of Abortion Providers (during a panel discussion):

An eyeball just fell down into my lap, and that’s gross!” [Laughter].

Laughter. Think about that. They laugh.
