In another bombshell video released by Center for Medical Progress (CMP), a Planned Parenthood medical director is caught explaining how abortionists get around the ban on partial-birth abortions. It’s simple. They merely state their “intent” to use a different procedure. It’s as easy as checking a box. 

Dr. Suzie Prabhakaran, Vice President of Medical Affairs for Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida, told undercover investigators how the scam works. There’s a “checkbox” on a document that abortionists use to state their intention to comply with the law. 

The Ambiguity of “Intent”

Abortionists who do not use digoxin can check the box to state their intent to perform a dismemberment abortion but later perform a partial-birth abortion. “That’s how you comply,” said Prabhakaran in the CMP video. “I’m not doing digoxin, and we’re just going to document and there’s never been a problem.”

Digoxin, a chemical that stops the baby’s heart before the abortion, makes the baby’s organs unviable for harvesting. So Prabhakaran and her colleagues do the partial-birth abortions, in violation of the law, in order to harvest fetal body parts. Earlier videos show how Planned Parenthood illegally profits from the sale of those baby body parts. 

Prabhakaran says some people “train” to use this loophole when documenting compliance with the partial-birth abortion ban. “You basically have to say, ‘I intend to utilize dismemberment techniques for this procedure… .'” said Prabhakaran. “So every time you do a procedure, that’s how you document. So, like, there’s like a checkbox.”

Planned Parenthood Feigns Compliance While Profiting From the Illegal Abortions

“Planned Parenthood medical directors and abortion doctors feign compliance with the federal partial-birth abortion law on paper, knowing full well that ‘what ultimately happens doesn’t matter’ so long as no one is scrutinizing what they actually do to women and children in the operating room,” said David Daleiden, CMP founder. “And the fact that Planned Parenthood has a ‘dismemberment checkbox’ on their abortion forms should tell the public and policymakers everything they need to know about this barbaric abortion business.”

Prahbakaran cannot be dismissed as a rogue operator. Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood’s Senior Director of Medical Services, said very much the same thing about intent in a previous undercover video. 

“The Federal [Partial-Birth] Abortion Ban is a law, and laws are up to interpretation,” she said. “So there are some people who interpret it as its intent. So if I say on Day 1 I do not intend to do this, what ultimately happens doesn’t matter.”

Daleiden added that “The Department of Justice should open an immediate investigation into Planned Parenthood’s late-term abortion practices, and the U.S. Congress must stop forcing taxpayers to subsidize Planned Parenthood’s brutal abortion empire.”
