The disclosure of Planned Parenthood’s sale of the body parts of aborted children reminded me of the Superman comics I read as a child. Some readers will remember the strange upside down world of the Bizarros who inhabited a planet called “Htrae” (“Earth” spelled backwards). Their code was “Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness! It’s a big crime to make anything perfect on Bizarro World!” Planned Parenthood is a body shop in a Bizarro America.

The organization claims to be a health care provider yet takes the lives of innocent children as a “reproductive service.” Their “medical professionals” routinely use surgical strikes, brutal suction or what is euphemistically called a “medication abortion” (chemical weapons) to cause the death of boys and girls in the womb. The argument made to attempt to justify this intentional killing is the perverse claim that freedom entitles one with more power to make such a choice.

We now have clear evidence that this corrupt organization named Planned Parenthood harvests body parts from boys and girls, using ultrasound machines to ensure they get the organs intact. I will not repeat the words the Planned Parenthood doctor spoke as she sipped her wine and expressed her delight at the flavor of the salad she consumed. The Human Body Shops

Years ago I asked whether embryo banks for spare parts would become the next innovation in the expansion of the culture of death. Would abortion evolve from a “tragic necessity,” as its advocates used to call it, to a source of commodities for purchase?

It has, and President Obama has hurried things along that path. On Monday, March 9, 2009, he promoted this commodification of human persons when he signed an Executive Order which ordered the National Institute of Health to “support and conduct responsible, scientifically worthy human stem cell research, including human embryonic stem cell research, to the extent permitted by law.” This led to NIH guidelines that treat human embryos as property, capable of being “manufactured” and available to be used as spare parts in experimentation — guidelines that have led the Planned Parenthood selling the parts of the children they kill.

On April 26, 2013, the president was the main speaker at Planned Parenthood’s annual fundraising banquet. His speech was a ringing affirmation of the organization, its mission and its plans for the future. “As long as we’ve got to fight to make sure women have access to quality, affordable health care,” he said at the end of the address, “and as long as we’ve got to fight to protect a woman’s right to make her own choices about her own health, I want you to know that you’ve also got a President who’s going to be right there with you fighting every step of the way.”

He ended with a profane and blasphemous “blessing” of their work. The President of the United States extolled this evil organization with these words, “Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you. God bless America.” For those who want to read what the President said, here is the full transcript.

The Obama administration presents itself as a champion of the poor, but it refuses to hear the cry of those whom Blessed Teresa of Calcutta called the “poorest of the poor.” That administration denies an entire class of persons the first and most fundamental human right, the right to life. Instead, President Obama stands clearly with an evil organization which takes the lives of children in their first home. Now, it has also come to the public’s attention that the same organization harvests the body parts of these babies after killing them.

But let’s not kid ourselves. This has been known and knowable for some time. Fr. Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life, has been a prophetic voice crying in the wilderness trying to make people aware of evil for years. In 2008 — seven years ago — he exposed the order forms used in this hideous activity.

A Silver Lining

Scandals like this about Planned Parenthood’s work have erupted before — scandals that horrify even people who don’t object to abortion. Yet, after an initial outcry, and assurances from politicians that it would be dealt with, nothing happened. No one acted.

There is a silver lining. This latest disclosure that Planned Parenthood operates human body shops presents us with a fresh opportunity.

In the comics I read as kid, Superman stood up to the Bizarros. But there is no hero in the White House to put an end to these Bizarro Body Shops. Instead, the man in the White House is aiding and abetting their work. Ordinary men and women must rise up and stand against this evil, and we must do so for more than the length of a season or a news cycle, lest we find ourselves shocked by another Planned Parenthood sting video ten years from now, and find ourselves thinking, “Wait, didn’t somebody do something about that ten years ago?”

No, we must be the somebodies. While people are still reeling from the discovery of what Planned Parenthood really does, we have to press upon them the reality that this is what legal abortion leads to. This is what happens when you have a publicly-funded and presidentially-endorsed organization. We have to press our political leaders to respond by de-funding the organization and by making the sale of fetal parts illegal in a way that Planned Parenthood can’t avoid. We don’t need a Superman to stop this horror. We just need men and women of courage and conviction willing to stand up to evil.
