Orlando Attack: President Obama and Candidates React
The White House has released a statement regarding this morning’s suspected terror attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando which has left at least 50 dead, and 53 injured.
The President was briefed this morning by Lisa Monaco, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, on the tragic shooting in Orlando, Florida. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims. The President asked to receive regular updates as the FBI, and other federal officials, work with the Orlando Police to gather more information, and directed that the federal government provide any assistance necessary to pursue the investigation and support the community.
President Obama is scheduled to address the nation Sunday afternoon on the tragedy.
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump Tweeted news of the attack.

After sending out a Tweet griping about a Hillary Clinton attack ad, Trump then offered his prayers and a question.
Horrific incident in FL. Praying for all the victims & their families. When will this stop? When will we get tough, smart & vigilant?

Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Sen. Bernie Sanders called the attack “horrific” and “unthinkable,” saying, “Our … hopes go out to all those who were shot that they can recover.” He then immediately turned his attention to gun control.
“Twenty-five years ago, I believed that in this country that we should not be selling automatic weapons which are designed to kill people,” he said. “We have got to do everything that we can on top of that to make sure that guns do not fall into the hands of those who should not have them: criminals, people who are mentally ill. So that struggle continues.”
After offering his prayers, former GOP candidate and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio echoed the urgent request from Orlando health officials for blood donors.
