In response to President Trump nominating pro-life judge Brett Kavanagh for the Supreme Court, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) is striking back. Citing fears that Roe v. Wade will be reversed by the new composition of justices on the Supreme Court, he launched an awareness campaign titled “Know Your Options.”

The campaign will combat what he calls “false and misleading advertising” by crisis pregnancy centers. In his press release, he claims he’s responding to “repeated attacks on access to reproductive health care.”

Cuomo says the campaign will “connect women to comprehensive, confidential and medically accurate reproductive health care services.” Assuming that abortion is health care, it claims CPCs are “misrepresenting themselves as health centers to dissuade those seeking abortion from going through with that choice.” They “offer free services to attract women into their offices.” According to Cuomo, a clinic isn’t a real “health center” unless it provides abortions.

He says he refuses to let President Trump “take us backwards.” The campaign will “combat the insidious spread of misleading, medically inaccurate information about reproductive health.” Cuomo lauded New York’s efforts to codify Roe v. Wade into law.

The campaign will include subway ads and will be printed in multiple languages.

Abortion Mills are the Real Danger

Pro-life activist Abby Johnson responded and said that CPCs don’t offer abortions. They don’t claim they do. They offer plenty of services for moms and babies that abortion centers do not. “You see, we are actually here to help mother and child. The abortion industry provides pregnant women no help past killing their child.”

Johnson objects to the characterization that CPCs are coercive. She used to work in the abortion industry, and says “the most manipulation I have ever witnessed was inside the abortion center walls.” Johnson told CBN she hopes Cuomo will “include inspection reports from abortion clinics in the state that show clinics are putting the health and safety of women in jeopardy.” She runs a website that compiles these reports, CheckMyClinic.org.

Cuomo’s negative ad campaign will have a chilling effect on CPCs. Claiming they are not “health centers” will deter women from going there. Some go further than that in their rhetoric. Dr. Anne Davis, an abortion doctor, calls CPCs “fake women’s health centers.”

The campaign directs people to visit ny.gov/planning for more information. The site does not contain any information about CPCs, but contains plenty of direction on abortions.

Cuomo Piling On

This marks another step Cuomo has taken protecting abortion. He signed an executive order in July assuring women they would have access to contraception and abortions. Before that, in January, he signed an executive order requiring insurance companies to provide “free” abortions and contraception. This means there cannot be any co-pays, coinsurance, or deductibles. New York’s governor has also asked the state legislature to pass a law codifying Roe v. Wade into law.

During a bill signing in New York on Wednesday, Cuomo said, “We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great.” While his remarks may cause political damage, it’s nothing like the damage done to the lives of children by attacking CPCs.
