Newsom and Cuomo Face Political Death … or More Like Suicide From Hubris

By Al Perrotta Published on February 22, 2021

California Governor Gavin Newsom is now but 60,000 signatures away from being recalled, organizers of the effort say. Ousted. Dumped. Tossed aside by California like an actress over 40.

Californians are fed up with his handling of COVID, their ire made worse by his lockdowns that he won’t apply to his own life.

The folks behind the recall effort collected far more signatures than the 1.5 million needed. However, Newsom and the Democrats insisted … rightfully so, I might add … on verifying the signatures. Thus far, officially, 1.1 million signatures have been submitted to the state, with 667,000 already verified by state officials.

Isn’t it funny how signature verification is essential in a recall but when Donald Trump asks for signature verification in a presidential election he’s inciting an insurrection? It’s almost like Democrats have two different standards.

Despite being inches away from possible unemployment, there is good news for Gavin. At least he’s not under federal investigation like a certain Emmy-winning Governor of New York.

Cuomo Days Numbered?

I don’t want to say Gov. Andrew Cuomo is in hot water, but his new Twitter handle is @Lobster.  The Feds have opened up an investigation into his nursing home COVID cover-up. The state legislature is reportedly “inching toward” an impeachment probe.  Even AOC is calling for a “full investigation.” (And the White House? Unfortunately, Press Secretary Jen Psaki refused Sunday morning to condemn Cuomo’s actions and repeatedly dodged the question when asked if Joe Biden still considered Cuomo the “gold standard” for COVID response.)

A growing bi-partisan chorus is calling for his ouster, especially after he threated to “destroy”  Democratic state rep. Ron Kim, who dared question him. Threats and bullying are nothing new to Cuomo. He makes enemies the way California makes raisins. Which is why if Cuomo starts to topple, he’ll fall hard.

And friends, he’s starting to topple.

It’s not just that Cuomo — knowing full well the danger — deliberately stuffed elderly patients with COVID back into nursing homes like ticking virus time bombs. When the elderly in those nursing homes started dropping like flies, he and his henchmen covered it up. They hid the numbers because Cuomo was worried about the Department of Justice coming after him.

Worried About Trump

That was bad enough. Worse, Cuomo was worried about Donald Trump being given a political victory in an election year.

If you recall, Cuomo was being hailed as a brilliant, articulate leader in the fight against COVID. Donald Trump was, of course, the devil killing Americans by the tens of thousands. That is, when he wasn’t being a racist xenophobe by banning flights from China and referring to COVID as the “Chinese virus.”

Was Cuomo going to let a few dead old people ruin that mirage and letting Trump be seen doing his job well? Harm book sales? End the adoration of the news and entertainment world? Of course not. He would stand atop the mound of dead bodies and soak up the roars of applause.

Proverbs knew Andrew Cuomo: “Before a downfall, the heart is haughty” (Proverbs 18:12). The downfall’s even worse when the haughtiness was undeserved.
