Nebraska Gov Signs Executive Order Defining Male, Female

By Published on August 31, 2023

Republican Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen signed an executive order Wednesday defining the terms man and woman, according to the governor’s office.

The executive order, establishing a “Women’s Bill of Rights,” says that sex is defined at birth and that women and girls refer to human females and men and boys refer to human males. It says that “inconsistencies” in court rulings and policies have led to the “endangerment” of single-sex spaces and resources that have led to a requirement to define the terms.

“It is common sense that men do not belong in women’s only spaces,” Pillen said in a press release Wednesday.

The executive order states that men and women have “immutable biological differences” that “increase as they age and experience puberty.” It then states that these differences necessitate separate sex spaces “to ensure safety” and allow members of both sexes to “succeed and thrive.”

“There are legitimate reasons to distinguish between the sexes with respect to athletics, prisons or other detention facilities, domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centers, locker rooms, restrooms, and other areas where biology, safety, and/or privacy are implicated,” the executive order reads.

Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma signed a similar executive order Aug. 1, which also defines the terms men and women.

The executive order in Nebraska is slated to go into effect immediately.

Pillen did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
