MSNBC’s Chuck Todd: ‘It Bothers Me as an American’ That Clinton’s FBI Interview Wasn’t Recorded
MSNBC’s Chuck Todd expressed great displeasure Friday afternoon that the FBI doesn’t have any recordings of its interview with Hillary Clinton, saying, “It bothers me as an American citizen.”
Though the decision not to record is a department policy — and not special treatment of the Democratic Presidential nominee — Todd and his guests said that the practice is rather out of date. According to Todd, “This is insane! We’re relying on notes on [the interview] to litigate this!”
The National Journal’s Ron Fournier agreed, saying, “Have they not heard that we have recordings now?” He later added in jest, “It’s bizarre. It’s like 15th century.”

Clinton has faced tremendous blowback over her use of a private server during her time as Secretary of State, which opened her up to possible hacking and other security concerns. In July, the FBI concluded its investigation into the matter, with Director James Comey announcing his conclusion that Clinton was “extremely careless” in how she handled her emails — but not recommending any charges be brought against her.
Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential running mate Gov. Mike Pence brought his own criticism against Clinton during an interview with Todd that aired Sunday. “The revelations in this FBI interview,” Pence said, “give evidence of the fact that Hillary Clinton is the most dishonest candidate for president of the United States since Richard Nixon.”
