President Ashraf Ghani of AfghanistanΒ lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery on March 24, 2015.

According to icasualties.org, 2,356 Americans have been killed during Operation Enduring Freedom, which was launched after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, with 2,150 of those deaths occurring in Afghanistan. We pray for the families of America’s fallen, as their immeasurable sacrifices define the meaning of the word “hero.”
