Some days it seems the left would rather torch the White House than an ISIS camp.

In the hours since the terrorist attacks in London, the mainstream media, politicos and their pals have been in a seething rage. Not over the latest Islamist carnage, but over President Trump’s tweets about the attack.

So what horrible things did the President say?

The Trump Tweets

We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!

Let’s summarize: The threat is an ideology, not a weapon. We have reason to be alarmed. We can’t be afraid to call out the threat for fear of offending anybody. Activist courts and political correctness must not be allowed to stand in the way of my constitutional authority and sacred duty to fight this threat. And in this global fight we must be “smart, vigilant and tough.”

For this, the President is called an “embarrassment” and worse.

The Reaction

Let’s start with the mild. Former Vice President Al Gore wasn’t happy Trump challenged London’s Muslim mayor. (A quick reminder: The Clinton/Gore administration had the opportunity to kill Osama bin Laden and suffocate the jihadist movement in its cradle. Guess Osama wasn’t leaving enough of a carbon footprint to draw Gore’s full wrath.) Gore told CNN, “I don’t think that a major terrorist attack like this is the time to be divisive and criticize a mayor whose trying to organize a city’s response to this attack.” Divisive? No. Ill-timed with his criticism? Fair enough. However, Trump had already made clear he has England’s back. In fact, there’s talk he’s heading to London this week in a show of solidarity.

Plus, there’s the backstory. Last September Mayor Sadiq Kahn suggested that terrorism is “part and parcel of living in a big city.” Kahn isn’t exactly known for taking a hard line against London’s radical Islamists.  

MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts asked, “Is the president trying to provoke a domestic terrorist attack with this Twitter rant … only to prove himself right?” It’s the old “We’re going to turn moderate Muslims into radicalized Muslims by saying we want to stop radicalized Muslims” play. 

The Washington Post quickly tossed up an editorial titled “With his London tweets, Trump embarrasses himself — and America — again.” Jennifer Rubin wrote, “Meanwhile — and it pains me to write this — our president acted like a clod, a heartless and dull-witted thug in sending out a series of tweets.” She was upset, in part, that the President quickly suggested it was an Islamist terror attack. After all, it very easily could have been other people using a vehicle to run down pedestrians, jump out with long knives, and yell, “This is for Allah!” It’s not like ISIS had been urging its army to use vehicles and knives to kill in the name of Allah. No, wait. They have been.

Naturally, Rubin found mention of the travel ban distasteful. It was “inappropriate,” she said. Then, she tossed in that Trump “fails to grasp that the courts in these cases are reaffirming our rights against an overreaching, discriminatory edict.” To summarize, “How dare he tweet something I disagree with!” 

Still, even calling the commander-in-chief a “heartless and dull-witted thug” pales in comparison to what CNN host Reza Aslan had to offer. Apparently he got the memo that “embarrassment” is the Trump attack de jour. However, in his eyes Trump isn’t just an embarrassment to America, he’s an “embarrassment to humankind.” Worse, Trump’s not just a clod, he’s a “piece of s***.” Yes, he went there. 

In a tweet, Aslan said, “This piece of s*** is not just an embarrassment to America and a stain on the Presidency, he’s an embarrassment to humankind.”

Aslan hosts a series on CNN called Believer, which explores spirituality around the world. Obviously, he hasn’t gotten to the episodes about loving thy neighbor, or for that matter, karma. Aslan is most notorious for eating human brain during an episode about a tiny, obscure Hindu sect. Hindus were horrified and offended.  That’s about a billion people’s worth of humankind right there.

Who knows, maybe Aslan and Kathy Griffin can take their ghoulish Trump act on the road. She can pretend to cut off Trump’s head, Aslan can pretend to eat from it. Then they can both whine about being victims.

Theresa May on the Terror Attacks

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May delivered a speech to her nation Sunday. In it, she said:

• “We cannot and must not pretend that things can continue as they are.”
•  “There is to be frank far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.”
• She attacked social media giants, saying they give extremism “a safe space to breed.” 

Said May, “Enough is enough.”

President Trump couldn’t have tweeted it any better.
