Kasich Turns Heartfelt Story Into Lesson on How Government Can’t Substitute for Loving Thy Neighbor

When Republican presidential candidate John Kasich fielded a question from a young supporter, the story he heard moved him — and with good reason. The young man shared briefly how he had lost a close friend to suicide, seen his parents divorce, and been depressed, but found hope in the Lord, his friends and what he has been hearing from Kasich, his favorite presidential candidate.

Kasich did the human thing and walked down the aisle to hug the man, telling him, “The Lord will give you strength.” That may not have been for the TV cameras — most of what Kasich tells the young man is inaudible.

Kasich then told the audience that pain like what the young man experienced is common across America, because “we don’t have enough people to sit down and cry with that young man. Don’t you see that’s what it’s about?”

“We can rebuild the country … but is there any substitute for what you just heard?” he asked the audience. “There isn’t. So as Americans, let’s just renew our spirit. Let’s care about one another and not be disconnected.”
