Jindal Promises to Sic DOJ, IRS on Planned Parenthood if Elected
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal promised Thursday to do everything in his power to fight Planned Parenthood if elected president, threatening to put the Department of Justice, the IRS and “everybody else” he can send on the case.
“Planned Parenthood had better hope that Hillary Clinton wins this election,” Jindal said during the first Republican presidential debate. “Because I guarantee under President Jindal, January, 2017, the Department of Justice, and the IRS and everybody else that we can send from the federal government will be going into Planned Parenthood.”
Jindal cut Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood this week, in response to a series of undercover videos showing the organization’s top doctors and officials discussing and participating in the harvesting of aborted baby parts for scientific research.
The Center for Medical Progress plans to release more videos, and alleges Planned Parenthood is illegally profiting by providing researchers and middlemen with the fetal tissue. Planned Parenthood denies the allegations, saying it’s legally receiving reimbursement for the cost of procurement.
“This is absolutely disgusting and revolts the conscience of the nation,” Jindal continued. “Absolutely, we need to defund Planned Parenthood.”
“Frankly, it is time for Republicans in D.C. to fight,” he added. “Too often, they give up — they negotiate with themselves. They said they would get rid of the unconstitutional amnesty. They didn’t do that. They said they would repeal Obamacare if we gave them the majority. They didn’t do that either. They said they would shrink and balance the budget. They haven’t done that.”
A group of Senate Republicans have threatened not to sign onto any funding bill that contains funding for Planned Parenthood, setting up the possibility of another government shutdown.
