Jen Psaki to Leave White House for MSNBC, Axios Reports
On Friday morning, Axios reported that Jan Psaki plans to leave her post as White House Press Secretary in May. According to their source “close to the matter,” Psaki is in negotiations with MSNBC to host a new show on Peacock, their streaming platform.
The news comes amid a torrent of recent embarrassments for the Biden Administration, including low approval ratings, criminal investigations of the president’s son, and a number of recent gaffes by the President. Psaki and White House staff have had to walk back or reinterpret some of his statements, particularly of several regarding Russia.
While it’s common for press secretaries to find work in private media following their stint in public service, the timing of Psaki’s negotiations raises some ethical concerns. The Standards of Ethical Conduct expressly forbids conflicts of financial interest, including seeking outside employment while still in office. It also forbids giving preferential treatment to any private organization or individual. Between now and when she officially resigns, how will Psaki’s response to questions from MSNBC reporters be impacted?
In light of MSNBC’s progressive values and outspoken support of the current administration, some are jesting that the job change will be hardly noticeable:

Jack Posobiec among others are predicting further staff resignations amidst declining approval ratings:
SHADE WAR UPDATE: Psaki’s departure is a major blow for Team Biden, amid the polling collapse. She was one of his strongest supporters in the admin along with Ron and Jill. Team Kamala eying the place up. And Psaki isn’t the only one planning to walk.
