ISIS Bamboozles Justin Bieber Fans in Radical Fashion
The Islamic State (ISIS) wants to turn Beliebers into believers of radical Jihad by tricking them into watching propaganda via social media.
The terrorist group is using Twitter as a medium to attract pop star Justin Bieber’s 76 million followers to the ISIS cause. After uploading one its propaganda films to the internet, ISIS began using ‘#IslamicState’ in conjunction with ‘#JustinBieber.’
A significant portion of Bieber’s fan base is made up of young, impressionable children, which has parents of children with Twitter accounts very concerned. The mother of a nine-year-old girl who was browsing for Bieber pictures online told the U.K.’s Express that she was “appalled” that her daughter would stumble on the propaganda video.
The mother, who lives with her daughter in Surrey, England, apparently has no problem letting her child search for pictures of androgynous pop stars in their early twenties, but ISIS propaganda videos are a bridge too far.
“I do let my daughter use Twitter and she knows all about using hashtags to search for Justin Bieber news and pictures,” said the unnamed mother, “I would be horrified if she ever saw images such as those in the video.”
“I will certainly think twice about letting her loose on Twitter now.”
ISIS has made many attempts to appeal to Western youths through their propaganda and recruiting efforts. Their videos are well-known for being of remarkable production value, with slick transitions and high definition recording.
The terrorist group has had some success in attracting young people to its cause. A trio of British 16 year-old girls ran away from home in early 2015, making international headlines. Apparently the romance the three struck up with their militant husbands was short-lived, as they were later reported to have escaped ISIS clutches.
