It’s well-known what Planned Parenthood does with taxpayer dollars. It covers up sex abuse, supports mob rule, and leads a War on Women.

America’s largest abortion company also has a huge political operation. Its affiliated arms have pushed $20 million into this year’s midterms. They worked with three other groups for a combined $30 million towards liberal advocacy. And while legally Planned Parenthood’s $540 million-plus government teat is “separate” from the abortion giant’s political action, the fact is that Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer dollars fill one pocket so other dollars are put in the political pocket.

Planned Parenthood’s political advocacy isn’t limited to abortion:

Yes, Planned Parenthood thinks the children of illegal immigrants have the right to be born American citizens, but the children of American citizens don’t have a right to be born.

What Planned Parenthood Hasn’t Been Doing

All of this is done in the open. It’s also done despite a lower number of services, clients, and locations. As detailed in a new report by Live Action:

• clients have decreased 23 percent (3.1 million in 2006 vs. 2.4 million in 2016);

• it closed 260 facilities (860 facilities in 2006 vs. 600 facilities in 2016);

• breast exams have decreased by 62 percent;

• cervical cancer screenings have decreased by 74 percent; and

• contraception services have decreased by 32 percent.

Yet while many services have decreased over the last 10 years, Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers are up by 11 percent (to over 320,000 babies each year) and taxpayer funding has skyrocketed from $336 million in 2006 to $543 million a year in 2016.

Planned Parenthood is among the worst of groups. Its scant breast exams and cervical cancer screenings don’t offset its slaughter of unborn children.

Those are just the abortions about which we know. Its “contraception services” include abortifacients. This means many more abortions may take place.

Shut Down the Murder Mill

It’s past time for Planned Parenthood to close. A huge step towards this goal is ending taxpayer funding of abortion groups. This would cause chaos in that industry. It would also protect taxpayers.

I partially blame Republicans for Planned Parenthood’s continued funding. Critics of my recent CatholicVote piece on the matter note that a defunding bill won’t get through the Senate. That’s true, but why haven’t Senate leaders made it a priority to educate the public? Why hasn’t President Donald Trump pushed defunding on Twitter instead of getting into catfights with the press?

Planned Parenthood gets funded under both GOP and Democratic control. It was Republicans like deceased Senator John McCain of Arizona whose key votes kept funding in place last year. If Republicans had real political courage, they’d have eliminated Planned Parenthood’s funding last year. Or under Bush 15 years ago.

Instead, both parties allow what Live Action called a “money laundering scheme” to continue.

Death Machine Turned Political Monster

Former Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards’ goal was to make Planned Parenthood “the largest kick-butt political organization.” She nearly succeeded. They control the Democratic Party and have enough influence on the GOP to keep taxpayers funding the killing of unborn babies. This is why support Tuesday for those who support life is so crucial.
