Report: George H.W. Bush Will Vote For Hillary in November
Bush 41 and Former President Bill Clinton have drawn close over the years.
Former Republican President George H.W. Bush announced he would vote for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, according to a Politico report Monday.
The news came from former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, who posted a picture of her shaking hands with Bush, with the caption, “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!”
Townsend confirmed the statement with Politico, adding “That’s what he said.”
“The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days. He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim,” Bush spokesman Jim McGrath told Politico.
None of the Bush family attended the Republican National Convention in July, and several former Bush staffers came out against Republican nominee Donald Trump, including National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft, and former Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez.
Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger also reportedly endorsed Clinton, joining former Secretary of State George Shultz in his criticism of Trump’s immigration and trade policies.
“God help us,” Shultz said about a prospective Trump presidency, according to Politico.
