France Monitors 15,000 Radicals, Foils Terror Attacks ‘Every Day’

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls says authorities foil terror attacks on a daily basis, as the country monitors 15,000 people who are in the process of being radicalized.

Authorities prevented possible attacks on major tourist hotspots in Paris, including the Eiffel Tower and the Notre Dame Cathedral last week. The situation has reached a point where Valls is confident more innocent people will be victims of terror.

“There will be new attacks, there will be [more] innocent victims,” Valls said in a Sunday interview with Europe 1 Radio.

More than 230 people have died from terror attacks in France since the start of 2015. Authorities monitor about 15,000 suspected radicals, and the threat remains at “a maximum,” according to Valls.

“Every day intelligence services, police, foil attacks, dismantle networks, track terrorists,” he said. “There are about 15,000 people in France who are monitored, because these people are in the process of radicalization.”

Former President Nicolas Sarkozy recently announced his intentions of regaining the office he held between 2007 and 2012. Sarkozy wants to put every person suspected of being a radical in Gitmo-style detention centers to keep France safe.

“Every Frenchman suspected of being linked to terrorism, because he regularly consults a jihadist website, or his behavior shows signs of radicalization or because is in close contact with radicalized people, must be preemptively placed in a detention centre,” Sarkozy said in a Sunday interview with Le Journale du Dimanche.
