Dems Beg GOP to Approve Obama’s Supreme Court Pick … To Stop Global Warming
Democratic lawmakers released a video allegedly “setting the record straight” on global warming and sharply criticizing Republicans for pledging to block Supreme Court nominees put forward by President Barack Obama.
Democrats want Republicans to approve a Supreme Court nominee who supports the power plant regulation expected to ruin economies of some conservative states and raise electricity prices for even more — all in the name of global warming.
“We simply can’t afford for our nation’s highest court to be crippled,” Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said in the video released Sunday. She’s followed up by a slew of Democratic lawmakers telling Senate Republicans to “do your job.”
The video contains clips of Republican presidential candidates dismissing claims humans are driving catastrophic global warming.
“I’m not a believer in climate change,” Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says in the video. Trump is followed up by Republican candidate Texas Sen. Ted Cruz saying “satellite data show there’s been no warming whatsoever.”
“I do not believe that human activity is causing these dramatic changes to our climate the way these scientists are portraying it,” Republican candidte Sen. Marco Rubio says in the video.
The death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia has given Obama the opportunity to nominate a third judge to the high court, but Republicans have pledged to block any nomination put forward until after the 2016 election.
Obviously, Democrats are furious (despite similar tactics they employed not too long ago) and are now pointing to the unfolding legal battle over the so-called Clean Power Plan (CPP) as justification for Republicans to go along with whoever Obama appoints.
The CPP is a massive Environmental Protection Agency regulation aimed at cutting carbon dioxide from power plants 32 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. The CPP is expected to cause double-digit electricity prices in 47 states and force the closures of lots of coal-fired power plants.
There’s even evidence the CPP punishes red states more than blue states because conservative states tend to be more reliant on coal-fired electricity.
