Daily Wire Streams What is a Woman? Free on Twitter. Musk Responds to Twitter’s ‘Mistake’ Regarding Censorship
Update, published June 2, 2023, 3:39 p.m. CST:
Didn’t get to catch the free film yet? You now have the rest of the weekend to do so, Jeremy Boreing, co-CEO of The Daily Wire, announced Friday afternoon.
An insane 24 hours.
Thanks to everyone who helped us stand up for free speech, and to Elon and Twitter for making it right.
To celebrate, we’re keeping What is a Woman on Twitter and free for the rest of the weekend so everyone can enjoy the Streisand Effect. https://t.co/LpmQ34Q5pX pic.twitter.com/nHzBBPLJv3

This despite the reach of the post being limited. The post could only be seen on Twitter by going directly to The Daily Wire’s Twitter page, and would not come up in a user’s feed. The post could not be shared, liked, or commented on.
You can’t retweet, like, or reply to Daily Wire’s What is a Woman documentary, which has been flagged as hate speech in an apparent act of defiance to Elon Musk’s support for free speech. In addition to that, Twitter’s now former head of trust and safety Ella Irwin just resigned. pic.twitter.com/AUXNqCVdB3

Elon Musk posted that certain restrictions on reach would be lifted:
We’re updating the system tomorrow so that those who follow @realDailyWire will see this in their feed, but it won’t be recommended to non-followers (nor will any advertising be associated with it)
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 2, 2023
Overnight, the post became sharable:
Thanks, @elonmusk! Overnight, visibility limits on the movie have been removed. Elon continues to work to make good on his pledge to keep Twitter an open platform! https://t.co/jZf9W02Rap
— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) June 2, 2023
The post now has over 36 million views as of late Friday morning. The post published at 7:13 p.m. CST on Thursday and will be available for 24 hours, according to the post.
The film has been shared 30 thousand times in just the last couple of hours. Once again, the Left's efforts to censor and suppress have backfired in spectacular fashion. What a great way to ring in Pride Month. https://t.co/oo4BCEESwJ

The film’s creators rejoiced.
It's been a wild 24 hours. It began with Twitter labeling our film hate speech and completely suppressing it, and ends with all suppression lifted and Elon Musk himself tweeting out the film and urging people to watch it. A huge win.
— Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) June 2, 2023
Elon Musk tweeted the film out, saying, “Every parent should watch this.”

Original article, published June 1, 2023:
Still haven’t seen Matt Walsh’s documentary What is a Woman? Now you can see it for free. If you want a refresher on the film, here’s the trailer:
Why see the film? The Daily Wire wrote about their film, “The documentary arguably sparked a movement to protect children from the harmful effects of sex change procedures. Following the film’s release and Walsh’s subsequent rallies and events speaking out about the tragic consequences of so-called “gender-affirming” care, at least a dozen states have banned transgender surgeries on minors.”
The streaming of the film has come with some drama. Walsh posted a clip of the film on Twitter and wrote, “This is one of the scenes from What Is A Woman that Twitter now says is hate speech. We will still stream the movie here tonight in its entirety at 8 ET. Twitter has the next 12 hours to decide whether they want to be a true free speech platform or not.”
Note: The following video clip from the film, which has been marked by Twitter as possibly in violation of Twitter’s rules against hateful conduct, has some uncensored crude language in it:

The Daily Wire has apparently experienced censorship in regard to this stream from Twitter. Yes, Twitter. The company bought by Elon Musk to get the Babylon Bee out of Twitter jail for calling a man a man. (They jokingly named Rachel Levine “Man of the Year” after USA Today named him a “Woman of the Year.”) Musk has since filmed an interview with the Babylon Bee from Twitter headquarters, joking to them, “You made me buy the company.” So one would have thought that calling a man a man or a woman a woman would no longer be censored as hateful by Twitter.
But unfortunately, as of this writing, that censorship is still happening. See the label at the top here:
As of Thursday evening, I’m not able to retweet, like, bookmark, or reply to this tweet, as Twitter isn’t deeming it worthy of engagement in “a place for healthy conversation.”
But there’s more. The Daily Wire’s co-founder and co-CEO Jeremy Boreing wrote, “Twitter canceled a deal with @realdailywire to premiere What is a Woman? for free on the platform because of two instances of ‘misgendering.’ I’m not kidding.” What followed was a long thread.
Twitter canceled a deal with @realdailywire to premiere What is a Woman? for free on the platform because of two instances of “misgendering.”
I’m not kidding.
Here's what happened:🧵1/16
— Jeremy Boreing (@JeremyDBoreing) June 1, 2023
Here are some further details:
6/16 After reviewing the film, though, Twitter let us know that not only could we no longer purchase the package they offered, they would no longer provide us any support and would actually limit the reach of the film and label it as “hateful conduct” because of “misgendering.”
— Jeremy Boreing (@JeremyDBoreing) June 1, 2023
Boreing wrote, “Twitter clarified they only removed ‘misgendering’ from their policy because they didn’t need to be that specific, but that they still consider ‘misgendering’ abuse and harassment.”
9/16 Twitter clarified they only removed “misgendering” from their policy because they didn’t need to be that specific, but that they still consider “misgendering” abuse and harassment.
They gave us the opportunity to edit the film to comply.
We declined.
— Jeremy Boreing (@JeremyDBoreing) June 1, 2023
So it was all pretend? Elon Musk spent $43 billion buying Twitter just to take “misgendering” out of their policy officially but not in practice? Seth Dillon of the Babylon Bee concluded, “Seems like someone over there hasn’t gotten the free speech memo.”
In the interview we just released, Musk reaffirmed his commitment to free speech, saying there will be no compromise, even if it means lost revenue. He also said that Tucker Carlson's main concern was the possibility of censorship. Elon assured Tucker that lawful speech would not… https://t.co/9pIwSG0xqe
— Seth Dillon (@SethDillon) June 1, 2023
Musk has since denounced the canceled deal as “a mistake by many people at Twitter.”
This was a mistake by many people at Twitter. It is definitely allowed.
Whether or not you agree with using someone’s preferred pronouns, not doing so is at most rude and certainly breaks no laws.
I should note that I do personally use someone’s preferred pronouns, just as I…
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 1, 2023
But the censorship on the post remains:
This tweet from @MattWalshBlog has been totally greyed out, and remains so at 5:22 PM ET. You can't RT it. It's been hit with a visibility tag. Hope the engineers are working to reverse this insanity given @elonmusk's earlier tweet today. pic.twitter.com/bBoOHiB8Gv
— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) June 1, 2023
Hopefully things get sorted out soon and Musk’s “free speech memo” makes it to all the employees. But even if nothing changes for the day based on Musk’s tweet, Twitter had said they would limit its reach, which would likely only affect the post coming up in users’ feeds. So either way, the film should still be available on The Daily Wire’s Twitter page.
