A Massachusetts police officer’s wife confessed to lying about a robbery and vandalism that occurred at her house, officials said Friday.

Maria Daly, the wife of Millbury K-9 officer Daniel Daly, claimed to be the victim of a home robbery Oct. 17, reports CBS News.

She told police that robbers stole $100,000 worth of jewelry and spray painted her home with  “BLM,” which seemed to reference the Black Lives Matter movement, Millbury police Chief Donald Desorcy said.

After she filed a police report about the incident, Maria lamented over social media about being robbed.

“We woke up to not only our house being robbed while we were sleeping, but to see this hatred for no reason,” she said.

“Something wasn’t quite right. I think that was pretty obvious and as a result of that investigation, the officers did their due diligence and followed through with the investigation that we had,” Desorcy told CBS News.

During the investigation, Maria confessed to fabricating the entire story. Police believe that the couple’s financial woes led to Maria lying about being robbed.

“Basically we came to the conclusion that it was all fabricated,” said Desorcy. “There was no intruder, there was no burglary.”

Maria now faces charges for filing a false police report and misleading a police investigation. According to Desorcy, she will be summoned to court.

“She must have tagged the place herself. I don’t know why you’d do that, if you’re gonna stage a robbery, I mean really come on, you’re a cop’s wife. You should know better,” a neighbor said.

Maria’s husband will not face charges as police determined that he did not participate in the hoax, Desorcy said.
